My goodness, if what people are saying is true, then this is not such fun stuff after all. A very sinister piece of work. And all that song and dance on television with them basically taking the piss out of the audience. They have some balls.

Some scientists are bat shit crazy. It is absurd that they get the funding to produce bio weapons or zombies. Plenty of good things worth doing, but they choose to build death stars. Nutters.

Thanks for sharing. Can we talk about Van Eyck next? The leading light in that group of painters?

Netherlandish altarpieces were made not just as storytelling devices, but also as a conduit for Christian's devotion. They are interesting (and you can see it in the Rogier van der Weyden above) that in order to facilitate this the characters are often dressed in contemporary dress, not that which the people depicted would have worn (have a look) and the architecture is not always ancient or middle eastern but familiar to the local worshipers. It then becomes not so much of a surprise that the crucifixion is their in the nativity scene. He wants you connect to the stories when the altar pieces are opened out on holy days. He is reminding you of the purpose of Jesus life.

I have a theory that The Annunciation is such a recurring theme in these altar pieces because they are a reminder that the wealthy patrons (it is often their patron saints on the outside of the panels) are trying to justify their own role as Lords or Kings, as though that feudal role was also bestowed upon them by Gd.
