'If Ruiz can knock him out, I can' - Whyte still eyeing Joshua fight

Dillian Whyte has no doubt he could knock out Anthony Joshua if he were granted a huge domestic rematch with the heavyweight champion.

Ahead of his Manchester bout with Alexander Povetkin, presently scheduled for May 2, Whyte wants to maintain his momentum and earn a shot at fellow Briton Joshua.

IBF, WBA and WBO champion Joshua is the only person to have defeated Whyte (27-1), having knocked him out in 2015.

But Whyte believes the outcome will be different in a second meeting, citing his superior skillset to Andy Ruiz Jr.

Ruiz stunningly stopped Joshua in New York last June, only to lose the December rematch in Saudi Arabia.

"If Ruiz can knock him out, I can 100 per cent knock him out, because I'm a harder puncher than Andy Ruiz, pound-for-pound," Whyte said to Sky Sports.

"I've got better feet than him as well, and better boxing technique than Andy Ruiz. He's got fast hands, but his feet are slow.

"I've shown also in fights that I can come back from being down on the scorecards and I carry knockout power in the later stages of the fight as well, which is a big thing for a heavyweight.

"A lot of heavyweights can only get you in one to six rounds. If they don't get you early, then that's a wrap for them.

"I showed you that I can get you round one, round two, round three, round four, or even round 11 and round 12, I can get you."

Eager not to get lost in the shuffle once again, Whyte is mandatory champion for the WBC, whose champion Tyson Fury is pencilled in for a third battle with Deontay Wilder and is also being targeted by Joshua.

Oleksandr Usyk is another name in the heavyweight title mix, but amid multiple lucrative opportunities, there remains one standout for Whyte if he could pick an opponent to fight for all the belts.

"I would love to fight Joshua again, at a drop of a hat,” added Whyte.

"It's one of the biggest fights out there. I'm in the game to have the biggest fights and the most meaningful fights. I'm trying to make history.

"Imagine, to get one shot at all the marbles at once, how unreal that would be after all this nonsense - out of nowhere, me and Joshua fight, I knock him out and became undisputed champion of the world."

    If you say so Dillian

Still not buying that Whyte is an improved fighter. Maybe that's me. I preferred the lunatic that got taken out by Joshua. I think that guy also beats Chisora Parker Browne and Rivas and doesn't get fat and look like turd against Wach.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

Whyte makes 40-hour journey to Portugal for training camp ahead of Povetkin bout

Dillian Whyte has undertaken a 40-hour drive to Portugal for a training camp ahead of his heavyweight clash with Alexander Povetkin – a bout which could be postponed this week.

The Briton is slated to fight Russia’s Povetkin on May 2 in Manchester but the contest is in doubt due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Whyte’s promoter Eddie Hearn said in an Instagram Live video on Monday that a decision on the fight will be made this week.

The video also featured Hearn having a chat with Whyte, and the 31-year-old fighter said: “I’m in Portugal, (on a) training camp.

“It’s a little bit of planning. I had to drive 40 hours non-stop from my house straight to here. I drove because I brought the dogs with me, so I didn’t want to fly.

“It’s quiet but there’s food on the shelves and I have a good set-up here. It’s a good base. We thought about it, we planned and we came here and it’s good.”

Whyte added: “The mindset is my date is not cancelled, my date is still going ahead, so I’m training. I’m a professional, I’m trying to be professional and keep training, and trying to stay positive.

“It’s very important to show people in this time that it’s important to train, to get on with life the best you can in these kinds of situations, because it is easy to panic and just shut down. I’m just trying to show as much positivity as I can.”

The British Boxing Board of Control on Monday said the suspension of all events under its jurisdiction remains in place until the end of April, at which point the position will be reviewed.

“We will continue to follow Government and the medical authorities’ advice and keep the situation under review,” a statement read.

I think Povetkin has slipped enough for Whyte to have the advantage. I'm far from confident tho.

Looking forward to this one tomorrow, I've struggled to get back into the boxing following the lay off, I've had shit going on which has caused the boxing to take a back seat, when I have watched the Friday night fights they have been alright but I've always had a bit of a drink and haven't been able to get into it properly and often watched it with my music on.

I've got the bug back now though, been watching all the interviews and build up for tomorrows fight, yeah it isn't the greatest fight ever but it has the potential to be a real fucking scrap, I'll be ordering myself some grub in and watching the whole card.

Nearly didn't happen due to an unexpected invite but fuck it, boxing comes before people in my books from now on.

Both guys look in really good shape, especially Whyte after his last outing. Anyone know what the testing was like for this fight? I expect this fight to be full of fireworks. I'm sticking with my pick of Whyte although I could see it going either way. It might be a case of who lands 1st.
