It looks like Michael Moorer's second retirement from boxing will be shorter than his first.
Moorer, who turns 39 next month, will return to the ring Dec. 9 in Hollywood, Fla. His opponent has not yet been announced.
The Monessen High graduate recently began training again a short time ago and it was kept under wraps to the public.
Moorer will be fighting out of the Warriors Boxing camp.
Leon Margules, promoter for Warriors, recently told espn.com that Moorer "wants to get a couple of wins, get back in the rankings, and challenge for a world title."
With a few wins, Moorer could move up the ranking quickly if for no other reason than the heavyweight division lacks big-name fighters.
The four current heavyweight champions hail from all four corners of the former Soviet Union. They include Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko (International Boxing Federation), Russian Nicolai Valuev (World Boxing Association), Kazakhstan's Oleg Maskaev (World Boxing Council) and Belarusian Sergei Liakhovich (World Boxing Organization.
Moorer has not fought since December 2004 when he scored a ninth-round TKO of Vassiliy Jirov.
During his career, Moorer has a record of 47-4-1 (37 knockouts). After Moorer retired in 1997, he took a three-year hiatus from the sport. After he returned, he went 8-2-1.
