I would give Tito a chance, Hearns was an all around better boxer than Tito with the brawling being about even, but any boxer can get beaten on any given night and with Hearns getting knocked out by Blade Barkley I am sure Tito can do it, Tito has the better chin between the two, he was only KO'd once in his career and it took repeated punishment from a man that was bigger than him to knock him out, not only was Hearns KO'd on seperate occasions but he was wobbled (leg's turn to jello) numerous times in his career. If they fought ten times I would say 7-3 for Hearns because of his boxing ability but it would not be as one sided as alot of people on here are saying.

Tito would definitely have a chance, hell he could end the fight with one punch.

But I would have to favor Hearns. By stoppage. So rangy, and the jab and right hand would give Tito lots of problems.

I think they were both at their absolute best at 154, Tito especially should have just stayed at that weight

True, but he, his fans, and Don King thought he was invincible back then. And though I'm no Tito fan, I gotta admit he was on a roll and it was damn exciting. What a war him and Vargas had!! Trinidad did KO Joppy at MW so he could still punch at 160 and won a title, but he tried the wrong man in Bernard. I remember there was talk that had he beaten B-hop, he was gonna try Roy Jones Jr. He should be happy Bernard stopped him before he really got embarassed and took a savage beating.

The chin definitely goes to Trinidad no question!! Hearns had no chin AT ALL. How can you say Trinidad's was worse, unless you never saw Hearns fight!! Trinidad could knock out Hearns with one punch, but despite Hearns power, it would take more to KO Tito. True, Hearns could box and jab, but he was a different fighter when someone put the pressure on him (see his fights with Leonard and Hagler). You have to have more power than Tito to keep him off, and the difference between the two in physical power is close. This one goes down in classic fashion in the late rounds. I say Trinidad. Now, against Hagler, Tito would be toast!! And Leonard would box circles around Tito.

Yeah, i hate to admit it but Hearns-v-Tito troubles me becuase i still maintain to this day that Hearns was the best boxer out of the 80's.

But his chin and Tito's 154lbs fists would only need to meet a few time before Hearns' face would cave in.

Titos match is a wiley tough guy will solid skills, an admirable work ethic and respectable power.

IMO Hearns was no tough guy.... He would look like Bambi on ice.

Hearns had more power than Tito!!!

Tito had to set foot or plant his feet to get leverage on his AWESOME left hook.

Hearns had a pole stick jab and a RIGHT that came out of no where!
The most powerful puncher in Welterweight History.

Hearns starts fast, and Tito gets warmed up, Hearns by Knockout!~!!
Agreed, early too, at least NOT in the later rounds.

Tito could still win 6 rounds and draw.
    7 rounds for a win.

    Maybe!

Trinidad would never find a way around Hearns' jab unfortunately

Firstly, I need to say that I think Tito was a helluva fighter. Total class in the ring.

BUT I do think that Tommy Hearns was 'more Tito than Tito was in nearly every department'. !!!

He was taller and rangier, and I think hearns was one of the mose underrated BOXERS there has ever been. During his amateur career he was exclusivley a pure boxer and hardly got any stoppages at all. He was the only person who ever comprehensively outboxed Ray Leonard. If you watch footage of him, you are amazed by how quick and powerful he was. I don't think that Tito would have outboxed him at all.

In terms of power, Hearns not only had that devastating right hand (up there with the most deadly punches in the sport's history), he had a left hook that took out at least 15 fighters, he could use his jab as an offensive weapon and he was using the uppercut just like Lennox did years later. In terms of KO power, I think he even carries more power than Tito did.

He was game, brave and always came to fight. This might have been his downfall as Tito can bang with the best of them and Tommy did always keep his left quite low. Young Hearns got away with it because of his size and reflexes (indeed he used to draw the right lead so he could counter it), but he did get tagged later on quite a bit. The poster who said Hearns has NO CHIN is worng. You simply do not win world titles in five weight divisions without any semblance of a chin. Tommy was shaken and sometimes stopped by elite fighters who landed their Sunday specials on him. I think Tito would have been had he been hit by some of those guys (Hearns opposition was much superior to Tito's).

So..... Tito was agood good fighter, but Hearns was an all-time Great who would have jumped on Tito from the start, pushed him backwards behind that telescopic reach and then drawn the curtains with the straight right. Tito was a brave guy, so I don't see a one-punch countout, but the referee would jump in arounf the 7th after Hearns had bust him up.

Sorry, Tito fans, my opinion only.

Good Post X. I wish i could agree wit ya.

Only thing is we all know that Hearns didnt have a credible chin.

Dont get me wrong, im no Hearns hater... If anything, im a Tito Hater (Kinda).

Hearns could not fight on the inside, he could not deal with pressue to well. Hence, Titos Power and aggression would trouble Hearns.

Oh yeah - I am not trying to say that it would be an easy fight for Hearns. There would be lots of risk involved.

I see Hearns knocking Tito out in about 3. Stylewise this fight is terrible for Tito. He has a guy who is faster than him, hits harder and is taller... Tommy does everything better than Tito. Tommy within 3.
