France's totals reported in past days have been lower than the real number, because until today they were only counting COVID-19 deaths in hospitals, not adding deaths outside hospitals.
I think many countries are under-reporting.

I saw that. Yet, there are relatively few cases in equatorial African countries, like heavily-populated Nigeria.
What is the reason?
I know airborne viruses don't stay in the air long in warm humid air, like they do in cool dry air. That's why there are more people with colds and influenza in winter than summer.
But although COVID-19 is airborne to a degree, it is said to spread mainly people touching surfaces like doorknobs.
