I’m sorry to say, but I think the US may be hit disproportionately badly by this virus crisis. I don’t live there, so I’m certainly no expert, but the federal system doesn’t really appear to allow for a national strategic approach to coping with it.

There are lots of desperately poor people in the States, lots of guns, distrust in Big Government, and what seems to be a very thin barrier to a breakdown in law and order. Healthcare seems quite politicised, but what would happen in the eventuality of mass infection? Would people be treated for free? How does health insurance work? That’s not a loaded question or troll bait, I genuinely don’t know.

Is the President ‘on point’ on this. He gets overwhelmingly negative press coverage here all the time, so it’s hard to objectively tell or get a nuanced view for us Brits.

Sadly we'd work to isolate certain communities and locales. It was put on display today with the like-dislike push from El Heffe Trump regarding certain State Governors and literal barricade check point for East and West Interstate drivers. Locally we've even been labeled 'the Mardi Gars virus' . Meanwhile in Florida certain beaches remain open. This has kicked into big political gamesmanship the deeper we go. Blame the next guy. Meanwhile Covid 19 is drifting on by leaving the 'next NY' in it's path Nationwide and we pretend it carries a passport. The virus does not vote. I think Trump needs to concede the field for the medical minds and stop making everything about himself.

You hit upon what will continue to become a major barrier to getting anything done. The old "well... if I have to stay indoors why doesn't he" mentality. Some states on lockdown and curfews while neighboring states do nothing.... that's certainly going to rub people the wrong way. Don't know how to combat that except for having a strong, effective federal government with the wisdom and balls to give direction. For that to happen though, we all need from Trump to check his ego at the door and let the experts run the show, like you just said.

It's the propositions of things that to my knowledge go directly against the constitution and the carefree toss away nature with which he is going after individual Governors while they are stacking refrigerated trucks with corpses. Did it again today by inferring that NY medical personnel are basically stealing masks and masks are 'going out the back door' ffs. He's playing for division and ratings. I have relatives who work RN and CNS and they're being devastated. Trump is not a leader

On just about everything it is getting back to normal already. I expect that demand will be heavy from Wednesday through the weekend because every grocery chain in the country starts their new ad on Wednesday and it is also the first of the month.
Paper products and cleaning products will be the last to catch up.

Nothing from the states has changed for me. I bought several Filet Mignon steaks yesterday. They were plentiful and priced the same. The cows were pretty fresh. Tasted great with a salad and a sweet potato.

You experienced issues because people freaked. Suppliers do not expect that nor have the capacity to predict or respond to panic buying. They keep on producing though and people at home then have too much and so it evens out. Prices sometimes even go down due to oversupply as people are stocked.

People should always be stocked. Who the hell buys toilet paper every week? Buy online, get it delivered, and it is 30% cheaper. Done for a year. Cut out the middle men and you can save money too. People should always think long term, but the economy churns on those who do not.

Only scenario I can see causing local shortages would be the trucks coming to a halt or slowed. Also as we go forward there are more employees being found positive. That right there would cause store wide closures for sure, restocking, sanitizing and testing entire staff. Grow your own is the answer, I wish I had the green thumb and land

Miss those Roma tomatoes but can't trust them. Actually wiped some down with Clorox wipes and asked self..self, WTF are you doing and tossed them out. Canned for now. Yeh they'll be a lot of concoctions in kitchens. Never had Rabe but have 5 lbs of broccoli in freezer so might be around the corner.

ah yes I can tell you are a rabe virgin. I thought it was broccoli cooked a certain way but it’s actually a completely different vegetable. When you feel safe to try it I boil or steam it for a short period of time, just till it’s tender, then strain it, make sure it’s dry and sautés it with a little olive oil, fresh garlic and ginger. Seems to taste best if you can brown it up a little. My understanding is if you don’t cook it right it can be a bit bitter but I guess I hit it correct as it was quite good. Now that I’m hip to it I’ll be looking for different recipes but the one I mentioned is quite good.

Apparently I need to do some research on proper ways to wash vegetables.

We were talking about that today. You see some people in the store 4 and 5 times during the day. It is easy to justify- "I needed milk"- and people use it as an excuse to get out of the house. There are meetings in the aisles.
But it is a small, close knit community, where people have lived together for generations. There are two guys in the group that used to talk guns at McDonald's, they went together to enlist to go to Vietnam. Their fathers enlisted together for WW2, and their sons served together in Iraq.

I have no idea what America is like (from one state/city/town to the next you're opposites) but people going shopping everyday, let alone several times per day should be nicked. id imagine it’s much different where you’re at as far as sheer numbers and clustering but ultimately you guys working in store need to look out for yourselves. Ideally the owners and higher ups would be looking out for all of their workers. Ha. What a fairytale. I find myself becoming quite short and matter of fact with some clients. They’re selfish ungrateful shats at times. A few not all of course. I pull up today and we have 3 owners standing at the top of the ramp just carrying on without a care in the world. I say you all need to please stay in your cars as the receptionist instructed and walked a wide arc around them. Seriously caught myself feeling like a ticked off old Dad shooing away some children ffs. You try to accommodate clients but some are thick as hell.

Some people don't appreciate anything and a lot of people are afraid and it shows itself in a variety of ways. And when you are over 70 hours for the 4th week in a row it ain't easy to bite your tongue but you do.
But when you get a chance to get a package of toilet paper to some old guy that didn't get his social security check until the shelves were bare, the look in his eyes makes it worthwhile.
The local pasty guy has been doing home delivery for his elderly customers- and he's at least 70- but thought he was going to have to shut down because of no flour, but I got him 20 pounds this morning and that felt good too.
