Son was in youth detention facility for stealing a car. Bad timing for him, judge called for 30 days in detention before his disposition hearing so back in holding cell! On his 14th birthday, my wife brought him a chocolate cake, and they ate it in the center’s cafeteria. He tells her all he tasted is bitterness. Then said he never wanted to spend another birthday in detention. That cake hopefully taught him more then all the facilities focus on teaching him better habits and support and stability he need to make better choices.
