I'm ok with TJ. From the memoirs of his colored descendants he didn't treat his slaves bad. In fact there were some whites who took slaves because of how harsh they saw some treated- ironically it was the practitioners of Christianity that did the beating/whipping & selling offspring like chickens from a coup. Forcing them to work ungodly hours picking cotton, whereas history states TJ had slaves that They weren't just cooks & butlers, but seamstresses, weavers, carpenters, blacksmiths, gardeners, and musicians.
Kinda weird they had that skill & he still looked down, but then again Abraham Lincoln decades later said it as well & he's the so call Emancipator who also said whites were superior. I take it to heart when TJ said (as a suspicion only) The guys back then weren't guessing- they claimed supremacy, period.

And I tend to lean on those like Eston, Madison & Colbert Hemmings to name a few. Those allowed freed were ( I think) based on their complexion. Free a dark black man & see how far he makes it in the world back then!

Plus his travels abroad were limited to Europe like France. Guys like Frederick Douglass later on-when given the opportunity to leave (Cause Abe Lincoln told him...my people hate yo people dawg!) (I'm paraphrasing) he said there is a greater difference between our two races than ANY other- But because Frederick Douglass knew little of Africa as the hotspot for minerals, natural resources, he couldn't conceive anymore than Jefferson could that Africa was a land of every resource the Europeans dreamed of. Black, Brown ,Red, Yellow people saw land as God's and they were the shepherds. Europeans said it belongs to them...started naming land after themselves.

Side-note- Thomas Pain knew of it-
May the reader research: Thomas Paine's essay published March 8, 1775 in the Pennsylvania Journal and the Weekly Advertiser and witness what he stated exactly about Christian behavior in the colonies.
    African Slavery In America.
“To Americans: That some desperate wretches should be willing to steal and enslave men by violence and murder for gain, is rather lamentable than strange. But that many civilized, nay, Christianized people should approve, and be concerned in the savage practice...”

I gather from his words...he was str8 trippin how people call themselves followers of Christ, then whip the hell out of their slaves, make babies, then sell them off. Beat the hell outta them- if caught reading- Yet the demonic ink pen today claims we were brought here to be civilized.

Pain further wrote, “Our Traders in MEN (an unnatural commodity!) Must know the wickedness of the SLAVE-TRADE...”
Thomas Paine on how he and his cohorts viewed Africa, “The Managers...and others testify, that many of these African nations inhabit fertile countries...”
In other words, the mercantilism (modern day capitalism) ruled over biblical precepts. That great founding father, Mr. Paine declared that supporters of this inhuman trade should answer to the common Lord of all.

Jefferson a Democratic Republican as one of the 1st to get that garbage ass political posturing on religion- Don't vote Democrat he hates God. He loves the Goddess of Reason over in France- Thus giving birth to his phrase:
It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are 20 gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.”

Till this day Republicans still play that stank ass religion card- only to be the worst treaters of people, while guys like Jefferson who didn't fall for that righteous-campaigner in search of Christian votes-to my knowledge didn't have whip marks all over his enslaved...in Jesus name.

I take more issue with guys like Washington who didn't want blacks fighting...Gave a window for the British to tell the slaves...steal away...& fight with us- we will give u freedom. Washington's crew said do that- and we catch U? We execute U!! Freedom is for us.
    Alone.

Had Jefferson had the chance to see the last few remaining kingdoms he may have reversed his position. But unfortunately for me, the historians I lean on to learn of my culture, teach that the fall of the great black civilizations occurred when the gentiles reintroduced themselves to the world as the Greeks. Our worst mistake? Integration. Ask the natives of this land that as well.
Thousand plus years ago. Guess how this country is dying? Look at your world falling. I'm not too sad about it.

hey dude man..at least he wasn't a punk mofo like this POTUS when the media of that day said don't vote for Jefferson...he's an N-word Lover!

Coulda cried the media was unfair, but he preferred a media free of government, so just like his successor who manned up aka Andrew "Kick them engines off their land" Jackson...the media said don't vote for that democrat-not because he stripped the natives of their land but because; His wife is an adulterer and a slut.
Rather than blame the media -he shot that punkazz dude who got a new occupation of pushin daisies!

What a way for this guy to bite the big one though really: his fear of slave revolts and his ever-closer association with the slave South as he grew older gave him chronic diarrhea.

To deny his miserable human failures and his woeful hypocrisy, no longer flies. It is the long-awaited time to compensate for inhuman and unspeakable acts of brutality and evil: nobody ever likes that time because not only do they have to compensate the victims but they must also admit the painful truth.

Toppling his statue will not grind his memory to dust, if that is the concern.

MLK is a hero of mine. He was a man of God who had affairs with a few women. Does that mean we should take down his statue? Some great people have done bad things but many great things as well. The media have always played people like fools and here we go again.

I find very few Presidents back then that didn't kicked the slave issue away like Pele' on the soccer field! TJ no exception. And I agree those who made so many owners/businesses to reap profit off their literal blood, sweat & tears should add resolve.
    Won't happen.
From a political POV, he shaped the mindset that majority should rule, not a minority of electors who could only vote for one- if they owned property.
As far policies he made you can't get down with, hip me on!

So do you believe if Jefferson were born in 19th century or the 11th, or 12th his opinion of black people would have been different ?
