Bit of both. Like it or not Canelo is an exceptional fighter and GGG was probably at his absolute peak two years previous.
When God said to the both of us "Which one of you wants to be Sugar Ray?" I guess I didnt raise my hand fast enough

I think GGG won both fight against Canelo, but Golovkin has not been as dominant and has shown signs of ageing. He is slowing down, getting hit more and less intense against the top boxers.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Just like everyone else said basically. GGG was a bit past his peak and Canelo is a very good fighter and has a great chin. GGG won both fights according to my scorecard as well as most people I have seen.
I thought that about 2 years before they fought, GGG would have won pretty easily but it’s tough to back Canelo down.
Styles, peaked/peaking at different times...Pretty straightforward I'd say? Not to mention, lets not pretend that the "everyone else" he beat were as good as Canelo? Arguably the only two guys who had that level of talent were the two he fought immediately prior in Brook and Jacobs, and both of those guys had success against him, Jacobs had a lot for that matter. I think he pretty clearly won the first fight as well, nobody would have batted an eye if the cards were wide for him in that.. The next fight was extremely close and probably took a fair bit out of him. I don't think he has much chance in a third fight if that's still what he's hoping for.
GGG just needed to let his hands go more and he wold have got the nod.
Remember reality is an illusion caused by a lack of alcohol .
Canelo landed the cleaner shots in the first fight.
GGG ducked Ward and Charlo.
GGG could have been so much more.
He should have been in the top x3 P4P list if he actually stepped up his legacy.
Answer:
GGG tried to finesse Canelo stupidly thinking he could win a decision in Vegas.
In the 2nd fight, Canelo's iron chin helped him win another decision that would've NEVER gone GGG's way.
Everyone else has pretty much nailed it so far, but it's down to the fact that Alvarez is an exceptional fighter: He was the best fighter Golovkin had ever faced & Gennady faced him at a time when his skills were diminishing.
GGG is ageing every time he fights; getting hit a lot more often & really having to dig deep every time he steps in to the ring.
I thought Golovkin won the first fight, but I thought Alvvarez edged the second, but I think if they fought again, Alvarez would win big, either by wide UD or maybe even TKO, although that's a long shot.

No doubt Alvarez is on the verge of every fight trying to prove something. I heard some rumors about him joining a contract Elite Sports for something. I hope he doesn't lose his track because this is the time for him to work hard on his technique to stand out from other opponents in the league.
