Mil-Town aka BrewCity aka Milwaukee Wisconsin!

Founded by mostly travelling French from region we today call Canada. Because there were more French than British/English- they were less likely to name land afterthemselves.

Each area referenced a tribe like the Milwanee, Pewaunee, Ozaunee Tribes.

The first major migration was from Germany, followed by Polish. Some attribute polish accent as to why the tribal areas now called cities went from Milwaunee to Milwaukee. Peawanee to Pewaukee and Ozaunee to Ozauki county.

Steele Industry rocked. From early 1900s-1970s A.O. Smith, Briggs & Stratton & Tower Automotive provided for automobile manufacturers like Ford, Chrysler to Johnson Controls that provided nationwide for companies.

Anatgonists against Miwaukee's social system of demanding that businesses provide (be regulated) for their sewerage, no desire to have plumbing, would be relabeled with a negative connotation "sewerage socialism"

Because Milwaukee leaders in the early 1910s wanted to ensure health hazards were minimized the press of that day branded anyone wanting to have sewers in their city, must be sewer-socialism.

By 1940s Milwaukee had several decades under their belt as the #1 city for Beer. Milwaukee lost her status as#1 City for Beer in the world in 1981. From Pabst to Miller, they would leave the country.

By the 1950s a black migration occurred, my grandparents came in search of jobs as stated above. Almost all of my aunts & uncles that worked in these unionized companies like Allis Chalmer, all of them owned their own homes, paid their children's tuition in full. Today their kids era (mine) we work for no unions, we are all in debt, and just 1/3 of us own our own homes.

Milwaukee is home to a 11 day lakefront festival known as SummerFest. About 30 stages -with worldwide acts performing all day from noon- midnight.
I once saw in a single day there, Carlos Santana at the Miller High Life Stage, R&B Band Cameo at the Leinenkugel stage, I walked pass Weird Al Yankovic performing in the process. I missed Def leopard and the main act that night was Prince.

Also known as the city of festivals along the same lakefront be it PolishFest, German Fest, Italiana, African World Festival, Asian Fest, Indian Summer, you name it from July-September these festivals occur along Lake Michigan. Except Arab Fest they got cancelled from 2002 until....

Today it is considered one of the top 3 segregated cities in America. Puerto Ricans dont live where Mexicans do vice versa. Whites are separated by ethnicity. Germans live mostly in suburbs of Germantown. Polish lived mostly on the south side, now known as South Milwaukee - they broke away from Milwaukee to escape taxation I think. College kids, yuppies, hippies & liberals live on the east side. rightwingers move to areas like Menominee Falls (from Menominee tribe) or Germantown (home of 4 winning PowerBall) lottery.
Jewish live mostly pass 60th street north heading toward Wauwatosa. Poorer whites left to suburb of Waukesha where a large number of Mexicans are moving as well.

TV Sitcom Happy Days & Laverne & Shirly was supposedly in Milwaukee, where the Fonz has a bronze statue of him on the lake front.
Halle Berry's 2nd last husband singer Erik Benet is from Milwaukee.

The documentary called Pimp Chronicles, begins its journey between Milwaukee & Chicago, where the big Pimp who started the game was known as Iceberg Slim.

Even though Gerald McCellan was born in Illinois, his career began in Milwaukee and often fought there. Lou Al Cinder? Kareem Abdul Jabar gave Milwaukee Bucks their only title.
