Some mildly interesting stuff from the last week..

So a big jump in inflation for america and the jobs creation was well below the expected million... So can the educated fellows of saddoboxing.com tell me, what's going on here, is this bidens actions?.... The unemployment benefits? The printing of money/stimulus stuff(which I don't know if it actually went through or not).... Real questions btw, I'm a bit of a dummy and many people know more than me..

Paul Krugman remains unworried about inflation, is he reliable, the NYT certainly seems left leaning.

Only took a day or two to saddle On Golden Pond Biden for the gas 'hoarding' frenzy. I'm just saying..if you're pumping fuel into a bucket or plastic bags you deserve to be paying extra . Shit is crazy though. The lines are real along the East coast and people in this Country are losing our minds as we so often do lately. Takes me back to growing up in the 70's. Sitting in the back of a hot ass Station Wagon waiting for literal hours to gas up and it had to be an "odd or even" day depending to your car license plate. Fights, punching gas tanks, the good ol garden hose to syphon and the worst of us came out in those years. People need to calm the fark down. Stay prepared but don't be insane doing it. If you're putting multiple 5 gallon tanks in the trunk of your Hyundai while some dude is waiting an hour just looking to gas up for the weeks work commute..you're the problem.

That's the real unfortunate part. People in general (not all, of course) tend to be ok while everything's honky dory. As soon as a crisis rears its ugly head, the bolded part of what you said tends to happen. Too many examples and instances to think otherwise. Fistfighting over facemasks. Hoarding gas with no regard for the neighbor. Storming Capitol buildings and then lying about it. Rushing to the polar extremes EVERY TIME there is an issue to address.

Which is why I love memes like this one.

Some points here. The hackers actually got paid. Five million according to Bloomberg. The pipeline people could have kept pumping but shut down because their systems were fucked and they couldn't meter how much they were giving to customers so wouldn't know how much to bill them. Ransomware like this can only work due to the existence of cryptocurrencies. If they ban them this kind of thing can't happen. Less than a year ago we had negative gasoline futures. You could take delivery of as much as you wanted for free and even a small payment as long as you had enough plastic bags to store it in.

The next Republican president might just start infringing on First Amendment rights. It turns out the last one did. I wonder how much coverage this story gets:

Can't wait for this. It's been too long:

    https://twitter.com/allahpundit/stat...73804755537924

Trump's last days in the bunker:

John McEntee, one of Donald Trump's most-favored aides, handed retired Army Col. Douglas Macgregor a piece of paper with a few notes scribbled on it. He explained: "This is what the president wants you to do."
    1. Get us out of Afghanistan.
    2. Get us out of Iraq and Syria.
    3. Complete the withdrawal from Germany.
    4. Get us out of Africa.
It was Nov. 9, 2020 — days after Trump lost his re-election bid, 10 weeks before the end of his presidency and just moments after Macgregor was offered a post as senior adviser to acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller.

    [...]

Miller told associates he had three goals for the final weeks of the Trump administration: #1: No major war. #2: No military coup. #3: No troops fighting citizens on the streets.

The party of the working classes. When taxes do eventually have to be increased you can see who is going to end up paying them:

In related and completely unsurprising news lobbyists apparently have enough votes in the House and Senate to block any Biden tax rises from happening. So people earning half a million a year won't have to tip over that extra sixty dollars a week to fund investments which would actually grow the economy for everybody. Guaranteed the next time there's a GOP prez and they control all three branches the top one percent will get another gigantic tax cut though.

Won't come close to looking at these for fear I will get distracted from the initial bombshell link I looked at!

This is definately worthy of 3 seperate posts, so you won't have to question- if anyone is looking at them (ALL)
I think like most? I pick up on the last post I left off at, but with yours-sometimes I can't make it thru that one post! Because of my level of interest in the topics you bring! If I tried to read all these links? It would take several hours, because they lead to additional info... SO I will always miss those last few...
    Just a suggestion.

I have a document in Word, I call saddo. One page states Kirkland's post.

It is when I see something interesting, but not the time to view it...well I added those links on to the word doc...and I am behind about 80-90 links/threads!

Do me, you, us a favor: break these down into a few more posts. Way too much to digest- considering these are various topics- relating to one individual.

    example-
this link alone you gave: Miller told associates he had three goals for the final weeks of the Trump administration: #1: No major war. #2: No military coup. #3: No troops fighting citizens on the streets.

    https://www.axios.com/off-the-rails-...d5eb3c6e2.html

Has 9 additional links related to that one- & they are all bomb-diggidy-bombshell news reports!!! Too easy to miss a link you may have- considering they are tweets- that lead to links with stats, data, quotes & then some!!! or give a subtopic to identify which links are related to a particular issue about Dondaldict.
It will take a while to go through all those tweets & their links...again! because just that one tweet/link alone led me to a goldmine of info.
    Just a suggestion.

I've been reading about what @Spicoli is experiencing with the gas. For now it is just the east coast.

As far as the jobs, yeah there is a question of how many people aren't taking jobs because of either stimulus checks or extended unemployment benefits. Many are service related and there are those who feel (iffy) working service sector during a pandemic which adds to the number of jobs needing filled.

As usual it is turned partisan- claiming liberals want to give money away- regardless of the fact they did it twice under 45 and he actually wanted to give more than Biden's $1400. Could Biden alone with a check just a month or so ago be responsible solely for the inflation? neither of the previous 2 stimulus helped rise inflation?

In other words if we're honest and ask- what would've been different had 45 got another term- he stated:
    https://www.forbes.com/sites/zackfri...h=4ffda44b2e06
President Donald Trump wants you to get a $2,000 stimulus check.

Congress already passed a stimulus package of $600 for each individual and $1,200 for each couple. Calling these stimulus checks “ridiculously low,” Trump now wants Congress to scrap $600 stimulus checks and instead approve $2,000 stimulus checks.

As far as unemployment - it is difficult IMO to dispute that 45 wouldn't have extended unemployments benefits as he did it once before:

So no matter who got in office, free money aka socialism was at the top of the agenda. & Now Republicans claim they wouldn't have done what 45 campaigned on- more stimulus and extended UE.

side note- curious what you or anyone gets when you type on youtube:
trump wants to extend unemployment benefits

    vs

Fox news trump wants to extend unemployment benefits

when I type the 1st I get videos relevant to trump signing Unemployment compensation.
when I type in the 2nd- all I see are videos of Biden or videos of nobodies claiming how this hurts small businessess or Mitch McConnell acosting him or everything not related to POTUS45.

When POTUS 45 gave out free money, FOX touted this as a compassionate conservative taking care of America. Now it's killing America.

edit- NY Times is the stepchild, the whipping boy. Republicans bash it for news, then herald it as the best for buying books.
OH, Trump's son or daughter had a number one seller.
    where?
    NY Times!

IMO it is like every other newspaper that can give 3 sides to one story.
front page gives the top stories.
and somewhere inside like the Miami Herald or Milwaukee Journal, Chicago Tribune there will be a commentary section for & dissent.
In other words if front page staes 7 killed in shooting, then story 2 will be a liberal blaming guns, story 3 will be a conservative blaming criminals, not the guns.

Right Wingers in my bold opinion usually take the editorial story and claim that is the entire way the newspaper functions. In the Journal Sentinel it is called the crossroads section where they state- this is the review or opinion & in no way reflects the newspapers standing on the issue presented.

San Jose Mercury news, Wallstreet journal are a few others you can compare or balance with NY Times.

    Good posting slimmy..

Never read the wall street journal and Iver never heard of the San Jose mercury, I'll look into that.. I think I will give a Canadian perspective a go next though, will give the old globe and mail a trial subscription.. I sort of like paying for things these days, well not like paying, but you know what I mean.

Krugman Wonks Out: Return of the Monetary Cockroaches https://nyti.ms/3odz4gZ

Paul Krugman remains unworried about inflation, is he reliable, the NYT certainly seems left leaning.

You can't tell anything from one month's figures especially when everything is upside down like it is at the minute. It'll take a few months for things to shake out and for an accurate picture of things to emerge.

That Krugman NYT link is pretty good. What he doesn't mention is that Wall Street has an interest in hyping inflation at the minute to help them shift a load of products and services onto their customers and sell a load of shit to investors. Journalists love writing inflation scare stories because they get lots of clicks and the GOP have an interest in hyping anything they think will damage Biden.

Like Krugman says we had this ten years ago. After the financial meltdown a lot of prominent Wall Streeters were predicting massive inflation, Krugman said what he's saying now and laid out the evidence to back it up. The Wall Street Journal did a big article, Krugman or Gross, who are you going to bet on? They had a photograph of Bill Gross, billionaire bond king standing in front of one of his mansions and one of Krugman cycling to work looking like a garden gnome in a bike helmet. The article was mocking this ivory tower idiot thinking he knew better than Wall Street's finest. A few years later Gross and his mates were all out of work or lost all their investors. Krugman has been proved right:

    https://www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v43/...the-gatekeeper

If he's been running a find ten years ago he'd have made billions.

As far as the extra unemployment benefits stopping people from taking jobs there's probably some of that going on although the numbers don't really show anything conclusive and you can't tell anything from one month of data. And the NYT does lean left but left is where all the facts and evidence are these days. Economic policy on the right, such as it is, has been to give tax cuts to the top one percent. They've done this for forty years and it doesn't work although the purpose of doing so isn't for it to work, it's so the top one percent don't pay much in tax. The left spend money with their childcare and their infrastructure and so on but the purpose of all this spending is to actually invest in and grow the economy and make it more equitable. There's a purpose to it believe it or not. The GOP are simply funded by billionaires to get into power and give the billionaires big tax cuts. The economy grows despite what they do, not because of it.
