Calls for investigation into world boxing association after another shocker

After Gabriel Maestre won a disgusting decision of Mykal Fox, an opponent who won most of the rounds and dropped the ex-amateur star, there are since calls for an official investigation into the WBA.

2021 is a terrible year for the “Pioneers of Boxing.” – WBN declassified them as a significant body earlier this year. Since then, things have gone from bad to worse.

Last night was the tip of the iceberg as a 34-year-old Venezualan, sanctioned to fight for the interim welterweight strap in just his fourth fight, got handed a gift on the scorecards.

WBA appointed judges carded unfathomably for Maestre John Mariano 115-112, Gloria Martinez Rizzo 117-110, and David Singh 114-113.

Significant personnel in the sport are now joining WBN in their criticism of the WBA.

Promoter Lou DiBella said: “Just great! About to watch a 3-0 guy fight for a WBA ‘“world title,” and he and his people boldly and overtly ATTEMPTED TO CHEAT.

“Wtf!!! But of course, it’s just boxing.”

After the sickening result, he added: “There should be a Federal Investigation of boxing and the WBA that begins on Monday.

“That was a twelve-point win for Mykal Fox, and EVERYONE in boxing in the know saw this coming.

“Boxing is corrupt and disgusting with a rigged system of ratings and governance. Enough!”

Julian Williams, a former world champion, joined those voicing concern.

“I’m going to stop watching boxing for a few weeks. I’m disgusted,” J Rock said of the Fox decision.

Respected boxing scribe Keith Idec added: EVERYONE, including Maestre, knows he lost tonight. It’s a damn shame for Mykal Fox, who deserved so much better than this gross incompetence.”

A second in Adam Abramowitz predicted the event could happen. He said: This would be an absolute abomination if Mykal Fox gets robbed. I say this because Maestre has some important friends.”

WBA President Gilberto Mendoza has a lot to answer for today. However, as WBN pointed out recently, it’s down to the promoters to stop calling WBA secondary and interim titles “world championships.”

They are not, and those who hold them and called themselves “world champions” should stop it now. If you have one, you are not a world champion!

What's next? Will the WBA award their Franchise Belt to Maestre? (or make a belt up?)

The real shocker is that these corrupt organizations (yes... plural) continue unabated, without oversight... without consequences... with absolute freedom to do whatever they please. Screw the fans who actually pay the bills.

The WBA is run by Venezuelan Gilberto Mendoza Jr., who followed Gilberto Mendoza Sr. after Mendoza Sr. died. Maestre, coincidentally, is Venezuelan.

At least Maestre was thrown in there with a live body right off the bat... and not fed a constant diet of local cab drivers to fatten his record. Then again, he IS 34 and doesn't have that luxury.

But if we're gonna talk about REAL shockers, the granddaddy of them all is that boxing fans continue to follow a sport that refuses to fix itself.

This was far beyond bad judging. Look a couple of terms are waaaaay overused in this sport like great, robbery, p4p etc. But this was outright criminal on live TV for the world to see. It wasn't "oh could have gone either way..hard to tell..I can see a draw". It was not close. Not a particularly enthralling fight but late replacement Fox controlled the tempo, the ring control and cleaner punches putting Maestre down and hurt early. Not even mentioned is how Maestre and corner had skinned gloves and the ref made them re-wrap before the start. Ref said 'well makes no sense they are signed off on by someone in the back' . That was quickly swept under the rug. One judge David Singh was brought in late...oh and happened to have never judged a fight in the U.S and just a dozen or so outside of his Country Panama..which just so happens to be where the WBA is based. And Gloria Martinez Rizzo who had an insane 117-110 Maestre (including his KD) just so happens to be married to a high ranking WBA executive. Hey I'm not one to jump into tin foil hat conspiracies as seems to be the new norm last few years..but this was a set up in plain sight. This was Kid Diamond v Huerta territory.

Said it awhile ago and I think it caught up now. Seems like the last year or so we've seen these cards where two judges have it fairly close, 1-3 point differences maybe. And then you see this outrageous lone card of 118-110 or 117-111 territory. The insurance policy. It's almost like the 'shiny object' for everyone to focus on and just like two weeks ago in Charlo v Castano fans start yelling "robbery robbery" in what was actually a very tight fight and imo a legit draw. But focusing on the one wide nutso card sort of blurs things and it feels like in this instance it finally backfired. I've not found a single soul calling Maestre v Fox close or coin flip. But outright obvious robbery, that fits the bill.

They actually suspended Rizzo for 6 months and ordered an immediate rematch. Apparently she's quite the dedicated racist twat and deleted her twitter account. Here's the kicker...according to the wba "rules" which might as well be written in crayon...Fox has to pay them 10k for that privilege

CHRIS EUBANK JR and Daniel Dubois have been STRIPPED of their world titles.

This comes after the WBA decided to scrap their 'interim' belts.

All interim belt holders have now lost their titles.

But opportunities are set to be around the corner for the fighters.

According to Michael Benson, former interim champions will now have one of two fates.

Some will be ordered into 'final eliminators'.

Others will move directly into mandatory challenger status.

Eubank Jr, 31, was previously interim middleweight champ back in 2015.

He won the belt back in December 2019, when he defeated Russian Matt Korobov in New York.

And the 30-2 star most recently defended it against Marcus Morrison back in May.

Eubank Jr could now be in line for a fight with the WBA's 'super' middleweight champion Ryota Murata.

Otherwise he could face their 'regular' champ Erislandy Lara.

Londoner Dubois, meanwhile, bounced back from his loss to Joe Joyce by beating Bogdan Dinu and picking up the WBA's interim heavyweight title in June.

His next fight is already set, with the 23-year-old taking on Joe Cusumano in Cleveland during Sunday's Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley undercard.
