ONE KING Canelo Alvarez announces next fight will be undisputed title bout against unbeaten American Caleb Plant with Las Vegas set to hold November date

Canelo Alvarez has officially announced he will fight Caleb Plant for the undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO super-middleweight world titles.

Mexico’s pound-for-pound king has run through the super-middleweight division like a steam train since returning to 168lbs in December 2020 and now faces the unbeaten American in Las Vegas on 6 November.

Canelo dominated Callum Smith to take his WBA title and win the vacant WBC.

He then battered overmatched mandatory Avni Yildirim in February and stopped Billy Joe Saunders by breaking his eye socket in May.

With the Saunders win, Canelo became a three-belt WBA, WBC and WBO champion, needing just the IBF to be fully undisputed.

    Step forward current champion Plant.

The pair originally entered talks for a fight on September 18, however these discussions broke down.

Canelo considered facing Dmitry Bivol at light-heavyweight instead, but ultimately opted to delay his next fight and make a fresh attempt with Plant.

He confirmed on Thursday night that this has been successful and the pair will meet on November 6 in Las Vegas.

Canelo reacted by telling Ring Magazine: “I’m very excited about this and about becoming the first undisputed Latino super-middleweight champion in boxing history.

“I’m happy to make history. I’m going to unify all of the belts.”

On Instagram, he simply told his millions of followers: “We’ll put Mexican boxing on top. Let’s go for the missing belt!”

Due to his free agent status, the 31-year-old has been able to compete on whichever network he chooses since his release from Golden Boy last year.

Canelo has worked with Eddie Hearn on DAZN for the Smith, Yildirim and Saunders fights.

Now he will jump over and work with Al Haymon’s PBC on FOX PPV to face Plant.

The unbeaten American has a record of 21-0 (12 KOs).

He became world champion with an impressive dethroning of Jose Uzcategui in January 2019.

Plant has since made three successful defences, but not competed anywhere close to Canelo’s level thus far.
