In 1967 abortion was not the great public issue that it is today. Reagan later admitted that abortion had been “a subject I’d never given much thought to.” Moreover, his aides were divided on the question.

What the above means to me is that
    1. Christians weren't making it a political issue
    2. Politicians weren't making it a Christian Issue

Why else would Ronnie state he hadn't given it much considerstion? Meaning those who helped him get elected KNEW there was no issue.

Side note- at that time- Nationalism was at it highest..Americans -the real ones..not us minorities..the real ones white common man, christians and business demographic were all under the Republican banner..aka unified.
according to many I can name.. if need be....

in the 1970s was when liberals would be called out as bad for America. They would become the boogeymen to keep the unity of Republicans under one banner;conservatism. as before the 1960s...aka 1950s...not a single president ran on being a conservative...that came post 1960s... so who were the bad folk pre-liberals?
1st it was socialists, then communists, then liberals who became all of them rolled into one.

So in 1967...Russia was the big bad boogeyman....not liberals....yet.
That bares witness as to why Reagan paid little attention. & Why christians KNEW of abortion for decades--- but NEVER called it a liberal issue.

What happened that it was never called demonic, evil, satanic? It (abortion) was once accepted, then when rejected it was labeled liberal. Who are liberals? Democrats.

Last- when Reagan signed it- Republicans said it was ok, because he was a democrat when he signed it...but wait....most Republicans in the south today- their parents were democrats!!!!

They swtiched parties in the 1960s when Democrats passed Civil Rights Act, Passed Voting rights act.
That is right to the WORLD!~!
The very Democrats painted as racists in the 1960s and previous...Have been bible evangelical christians 1960s and on...my point is this- Reagan & The Therapeutic Abortion Act became law by means of the medical community dealing with it.
IT WAS NOT A MORAL ISSUE THEN.
    It became one.

It wasn't even a big issue with Evangelicals back in the day. It only became a big issue when the Moral Majority and that lot found out it had fundraising potential then the whole Christian industrial complex jumped on the bandwagon.

murder should always be a big issue
It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

Amazing. You are on the other side of the planet and have more knowledge on the moral majority then the children of those who began it.

I agree. I initially learned of it from one of the ministers who attended those moral majority meetings then he left when he stated he saw politics coming into the fray and a desire to eliminate the racial issue at Bob Jones...no dating those kind.

    His name is Randal Balmer

Professor Balmer didn't state it was about fundraising- which I am sure if may have. They were assuring that each demographic within the party would remain unified. Where nationality (against Russian & Spudnik) unified them -- they would find a new enemy within- The Liberal. That was His take from the religious side & David Brock - on the political side stated the same--or back when he was a Republican before he became a Democrat

It's always about money with these fuckers. How the Moral Majority ended up: a real estate hedge fund with charitable (no tax to be paid) status.
