Martin might catch Ortiz cold though …. Luis may be distracted by the fact that it is the anniversary of his debut in 404BC – when Saint Telemachus tried to stop his gladiatorial fight in a Roman amphitheatre, and was stoned to death by the crowd

Charles Martin won the vacant belt against Glazkov who never fought again. This illustrates the poor quality of the division.
I agree with X. Martin then put up a pathetic defence of his title against AJ. Anthony had a harder time getting in and out of the ring.
Since then Martin has shown some spirit against Kownacki when he lost a hard fought decision and beating Washington.
Martin should lose to Ortiz and it will be interesting to see what Luis has left.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Well glazkov destroyed his knee in the fight v martin, just moving around, martin didn't even hit him to cause to it, glazkov semmed to be amazingly well connected though and was getting set up for an easy title win, he was l pretty small but not bad, he got a lucky decision win v USS Cunningham to become the mandatory..not saying that the division isn't poor but martins title win was more a demonstration of some guy knowing the right the people and then some bad luck and a terrible injury :S
Martin did show some heart v the adult baby pole and has been showing his power and he's just a big guy so I'm think Ortiz who as x said previously fought in the colleseum of Rome will show his age and get stopped... Or more likely Ortiz who's just a better fighter smashes him...
Martin by ko for me!
This Frank Sanchez fight is shit. He went from beating Ajagba to fighting this guy? Step up Frank.... he could have gotten a better fight than that. imo...
Bigger man George, bigger punch!

Half convinced they're hoping everyone is still hung over on New Years day by putting this on PPV. 4th one in what feels like 4 months and missed them all. Just not a great marketing strategy and Thurman v Barrios ppv also.
Martin has scratched his way back but certainly not the #2 spot where ibf has him. In an odd way his "win" for the strap was worse than his showing with AJ. He didn't belong there in the first place and won it without landing a ko punch on Glazkov. Ortiz who knows really, all the tools for 101 yrs old but Martin comes off much sturdier now. Really Ortiz absent Wilder and maybe Jennings hasn't faced even this level. Good espn fight definitely not ppv.
This ended up an entertaining fight between these 2 southpaw heavyweight challengers but just a sad state of boxing that they think this bout was actually worthy of a PPV event. The saturated PPV market of boxing on all these channels are seriously hurting boxing.
Charles Martin scored a flash first-round knockdown with a looping left hand which landed on the back of Ortiz head. Martin was also down in the same round but that was correctly not ruled a knockdown as they tangled their feet.
Martin was focused and sharp in most of the fight. Ortiz looked trim and controlled the pace of the fight which was relatively slow.
Charles scored another knockdown in the 4th round with a jab as Ortiz came in and he started to look more confident as he was winning on the cards with the 2 knockdowns.
The fight turned dramatically in the 6 round when Ortiz landed his own left-hand power shot that effectively knocked Martin unconscious whilst he was standing up unprotected. Ortiz followed up, as the ref did not stop the fight, rushing at a defenceless Martin and knocked him down. Charles glove got caught between the ropes and had to be untangled by the ref which gave him some time to recover.
It was not enough however as Ortiz finished off Martin in same round as the ref finally stopped it with the second knockdown. Charles was shouting bullshit, complaining at the stoppage and stood in front of Ortiz who pushed him away.
As I said, entertaining fight from the two.![]()

Ortiz back in the day was a very good, albeit cumbersome plodder, Over 42 years old now, for fucks sake.
Martin is as generally pointless as the other ‘Prince Charles’
Level 3 fighters, somehow getting a PPV deal. Wonder what the numbers of that were?
These 2 guys aren’t even gatekeepers!
