TYSON FURY has permission to ditch 'greedy' Dillian Whyte after his rival allegedly demanded £7.5million for their potential showdown.

The 33-year-old Brixton Body Snatcher is the mandatory challenger for the Gypsy King’s WBC heavyweight world title.

But he is locked in arbitration with the Mexico-based sanctioning body over his cut of their potential mega-money purse.

And Fury’s US promoter Bob Arum claims WBC boss Mauricio Sulaiman has told them to forget Whyte for now and focus on two alternative opponents for March 2022.

The Top Rank legend told IFL: “They want $10million (£7.5m) but we want to guarantee them $5.5m (£4.1m) plus a percentage.

“But they said ‘you have to start at eight figures, you have to start at ten million’.

“They are being very greedy, especially in the age of the pandemic where you don’t really know how many fans or what gate you are going to get.

“We spoke to Mauricio Sulaiman at the WBC and he said ‘it breaks my heart but go and find another opponent, fight without the WBC title - we will not take it away from you'.

“Dillian Whyte’s people should come to the table and make the deal to fight Tyson Fury but that is not likely to happen.

“It looks like they are going to play out the arbitration and Frank Warren (Fury’s UK promoter) and I are going to find another opponent".

British fight fans will be gutted at the news, especially after the British Boxing Board of Control took the decision to cancel all January bouts to help beat covid-19.

Whyte fans especially will be floored by the news after he missed out on a 2019 shot at Anthony Joshua’s three world titles over another fight-deal disagreement.

Team AJ insist Whyte refused a £5million offer to face Joshua at Wembley after the undisputed Deontay Wilder decider fell through.

But Whyte reckons it was a dummy offer and the plan was always to go to America to fight Jarrell Miller, whose idiotic doping bust then gifted the chance to Andy Ruiz Jr.

Mexican slugger Ruiz is now the man Arum believes Fury will face, if any new UK lockdown rules mean he has to go to Las Vegas to fight again in the Spring.

But, if coronavirus restrictions allow, Warren wants to host a UK homecoming for the 6ft 9in icon, likely against fellow giant Robert Helenius.

SunSport understands Ruiz - backed by US boxing powerhouse Al Haymon and PBC - is unlikely to take the Fury fight without the WBC world title on the line.

Leaving a bout with 37-year-old Finnish Viking Helenius the most likely outcome.

The 6ft 7in veteran will be familiar to English fans after getting a disgraceful home decision over Derek Chisora in Helsinki in 2011 and being outpointed by Whyte in 2017.

But he has rebuilt his reputation and record with three consecutive stoppage wins, the most recent on the undercard of Fury’s magnificent trilogy triumph over Wilder in October.

Tyson Fury is set to take home 80% of the purse split against Dillian Whyte if the pair cannot agree to a WBC heavyweight title fight before their set deadline.

Fury failed to tempt rival Anthony Joshua into a step-aside deal which would have seen him face Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed championship in early 2022/

Instead, ‘The Gypsy King’ was mandated to defend his title against Whyte as he enters the final fight of his lucrative Top Rank contract.

Should both parties fail to strike a deal by January 11, the fight will go to purse bids and then it becomes a case of which broadcaster and promotional team are willing to pay the most to put the fight on.

As reported by The Daily Star, Whyte and his team would be encouraged to secure a deal before then as he would be forced to accept just 20% of the split.

It effectively brings to an end Fury’s plans to fight either Andy Ruiz Jr or Robert Helenius in a non-title fight, with the 33-year-old prepared to not defend his green and gold strap amid uncertainty around Whyte’s situation.

The ‘Bodysnatcher’ was set to be called by the WBC as mandatory challenger as far back as October, but ongoing legal arbitration had delayed this.

Whyte earned £4million from his victory against Alexander Povetkin in March 2021, with Fury banking £20m from his trilogy fight against Deontay Wilder.

The organisation’s rules state that a mandatory fight will be ordered on a purse split of 55/45 in Fury’s favour although the WBC can use their discretion to alter the percentages.

Whyte may now be forced to accept an offer from Fury’s team who were willing to give him a quarter of the purse and a share of the pay-per-view sales.

Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte purse bids delayed for second time amid WBC row

Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte must wait until Friday to discover who will win the right to stage their world title fight.

Purse bids were due to be held tomorrow for Fury's second defence of his WBC heavyweight crown.

But they will now take place on Friday after they were postponed for a second time, leaving Fury in a race against time to arrange a fight for his targeted date of March 26.

"People keep talking about March dates - that's starting to look unrealistic for a fight of this magnitude," Whyte's promoter Eddie Hearn told the BBC.

"Either March, April, early May potentially. This is the window for the fight. Depends what happens this week.

"There are so many conversations going on behind the scenes right now. Something could turn at any moment."

Fury will earn 80 per cent of any purse, with Whyte contested his award through legal channels. Should a deal not be agreed this week, Fury could be granted permission to seek an alternative opponent.

And his promoter Bob Arum has revealed Manuel Charr has emerged as a possible challenger.

Arum told talkSPORT: “If Dillian Whyte is not gonna fight for whatever reason, obviously we’re not gonna keep Tyson Fury – not gonna make him pay the price of waiting.

“Fury wants to fight and wants to fight sooner rather than later. We can look around, get a good, decent opponent for him to fight if Whyte isn’t available. You’ve got guys like Robert Helenius and Manuel Charr.

“You just look at the rankings and pick a couple of guys from the rankings who would make decent opponents. I think unless an agreement is reached with Dillian Whyte, it [the purse bid] will go ahead sometime in the coming week.

"The WBC has decreed that Whyte will get 20 per cent of the purse bid and if the purse bid goes ahead, we’ll figure out what that 20 per cent comes to.

“I’m always optimistic that a deal gets done before the purse bid. I don’t think a purse bid does anybody any good. I think the parties should sit down, there’s plenty of money involved, and just work out a normal deal…

“Obviously there’s talks to try and settle the matter so it goes ahead without purse bids.”

Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions has won the purse bids to stage Tyson Fury's WBC world title defence against Dillian Whyte.

A purse bid was held in Mexico City at the WBC headquarters on Friday after the heavyweights were unable to come to terms, with Fury's co-promoter Warren outbidding Eddie Hearn's Matchroom.

Warren bid £31m while Matchroom offered £24m giving Fury's team control of the all-British heavyweight fight which must happen by 29 April.

The split is set to be 80/20 in the favour of Fury, who will pocket £25m to Whyte's £6m. That split may change if Whyte is successful in his appeal to the WBC for a bigger share.

A statement from Warren said: "Queensberry and Top Rank are delighted that WBC and lineal world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will defend his titles against Dillian Whyte following today's purse bids.

"A venue and date for the fight will be announced in due course."

The purse bids had been delayed three times while Fury negotiated with Anthony Joshua to potentially step aside from his upcoming rematch with unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.

But with those talks collapsing on the eve of the purse bids, Fury pushed ahead with plans to fight his mandatory challenger Whyte.

The Principality Stadium in Cardiff is favourite to host the fight, but the Manchester Arena is another option.

Tyson Fury calls on ‘silent coward’ Dillian Whyte to ‘come out of hiding’ ahead of heavyweight title clash



Tyson Fury has hit out at Dillian Whyte for “going silent” ahead of the pair’s planned heavyweight title fight this spring.

Fury was recently ordered to face mandatory challenger and interim champion Whyte, with a purse split agreed and an April date expected.

A step-aside deal that would have allowed WBC champion Fury to face WBO, WBA, IBF and IBO title holder Oleksandr Usyk could not be struck.

After Usyk won the belts from Anthony Joshua in September, “AJ” triggered a rematch clause to take on the undefeated Ukrainian again – likely this spring.

While Fury has been calling out Whyte almost daily since their purse split was agreed, his fellow Briton has remained largely silent.

“This is a message for Dillian Whyte – white feathers, coward. Where are you, white feathers?” Fury said in a video on Twitter on Tuesday.

“You wanted your world title shot with [Deontay] Wilder for three years, you never got it. You was [inaudible] with me for three minutes and you got your fight, didn’t you, coward?

“‘Tyson Fury’s a coward, he don’t wanna fight Dillian Whyte,’ but all of a sudden it’s on your toes and you’ve gone silent, you little b***h.

“Come out, come out of hiding, white feathers. Come and get it. You’re gonna get a good hiding.

Dillian Whyte appeared to shut down Tyson Fury's demand to respond to their world title fight with a silent post-training video.

Whyte was finally awarded the world heavyweight title shot he's been waiting for when Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions along with Bob Arum's Top Rank made a record-breaking purse bid.

He is now set to fight former sparring partner Fury in a fight that will see both men make millions after a £31million bid from Fury's promoters.

And Whyte has said in an Instagram post today that he is focused on "just work", captioning his selfie video where he can be seen pouring with sweat.

Fury has been jabbing at not just Whyte but the entire heavyweight division in recent weeks, and today claimed his rival had gone silent after years of waiting for his title shot and a multi-million pound payday.

"This is a message for Dillian Whyte. Whyte feathers. Coward. Where are you Whyte feathers? You wanted your world-title shot with Wilder for three years," Fury said in a video.

He also joked that when the Matchroom Boxing boss, whose losing bid would still have broken a record for highest amount in history, learns Whyte won't be giving him a cut of his purse, he will age considerably.

Fury has opened as an unbackable 1/7 favourite to beat Whyte, while the underdog is priced at 4/1 to get the upset victory.

The pair have a detailed knowledge of one another's styles having come up through British gyms at the same time.

And they even sparred together on a number of occasions, with Whyte claiming that he put Fury down more than once.

"He's the one that came out and said he beat me up in the gym," Whyte told Sky Sports years before the fight was confirmed.

"I can tell you now, that didn't happen - I don't like telling sparring stories, but people in the game know.

Yeah, I previously said Usyk had rendered a Fury-Joshua fight unnecessary. I've reconsidered, especially if Fury is going to be included in future ATG conversations. Yes, Joshua is damaged goods. But he's still someone the boxing world would love to face Fury. Tyson vs Usyk I'm not so sure about. This isn't a good matchup for Usyk, and the size would be too much of a hill to climb. Styles make fights, and I just don't think Fury-Usyk would be a crowd pleasing fight to the extent Fury-Joshua would.

UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou expects a crossover fight with Tyson Fury to happen next year.

Ngannou, 35, joined Fury in the ring for a post-fight interview following his stunning sixth-round knockout of Dillian Whyte at Wembley on Saturday.

"We both want this fight, that's clear, and we respect each other," Ngannou said on the MMA Hour on Monday.

Fury, 33, has hinted at retirement from professional boxing but did not rule out competing under a different format.

Cameroon's Ngannou added: "Probably next year it will happen.

"I think it's going to happen, it's just a matter of our promotions, but we will sort this out at some point."

Ngannou is currently recovering from knee surgery and unlikely to be able to compete until at least December.

That is the same time his deal with the UFC ends, which would leave Ngannou in a position to agree a Fury fight without contract restrictions.

He says he is open to re-signing with the UFC, but only if a contest with Fury is implemented into a new contract.

"The Tyson Fury fight has to be part of the discussion [with the UFC] - there is no other option," said Ngannou.

"The UFC is a great promotion and I want to keep fighting. The Tyson Fury fight is not my last fight, there's still a lot of fights out there.

"There's Jon Jones, there's the Stipe Miocic trilogy, there's big fights I can do in the UFC and I'd really like that to happen."

Ngannou says the potential bout with Fury would feature a combination of boxing and MMA rules.

"Make it a hybrid fight, something that makes it a little uncomfortable for him as a boxer," he added.

"Ideas like MMA gloves or fighting barefoot. I don't know, we still have to figure this out.

"I would say there's a 70% chance [my next opponent] is Tyson Fury. On his side I would say 90% against me."

Meanwhile, Whyte has accused British rival Fury of using "dirty" tactics to retain his WBC heavyweight title.

Fury ended the fight with a devastating uppercut, but Whyte, 34, believes a push following the punch should have been penalised by the referee.

"I was buzzed, but obviously I was trying to regather my senses and he proper pushed me and I fell over and hit my head on the canvas, which is illegal," Whyte told Sky Sports.

"I got caught, no doubt about it. I got caught by a good shot. I was hurt, I was trying to get my senses together and he full on, two-handed pushed me. It wasn't like a one-armed thing.

"This isn't wrestling, this is boxing. I should have been allowed extra time to recover and then carried on fighting."

Eddie Hearn believes Dillian Whyte showed too much respect to world champion Tyson Fury ahead of their WBC title clash at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night. Hearn, who is both Whyte and Anthony Joshua's promoter, suggested the Brixton Body Snatcher will 'kick himself' for not being more aggressive on the night he finally earned himself a world title shot.

Fury dominated the scrappy bout and then struck a powerful right uppercut to the chin of Whyte to secure the sixth-round stoppage in front of a sold-out Wembley Stadium on Saturday night. The challenger admirably attempted to continue after originally getting to his feet, but the referee intervened after the 34-year-old stumbled and fell into the ropes.

After securing the win, Fury remains unbeaten in 33 fights and suggested he will likely retire as he declared he has 'fulfilled everything' he ever wanted to fulfil. The 33-year-old added it was his 'final curtain' as he promised wife Paris he would retire form boxing.

Hearn - who was not involved in the bout after Frank Warren won the purse bid - believes the WBC title holder will return to the ring, labelling the Gypsy King a 'fluff merchant'. While he dismissed Fury's post-fight actions, Hearn has also focused on Whyte - and believes he paid too much respect to the champion heading into the anticipated bout.

"I thought it was a bit disappointing. Obviously I was disappointed on Dillian's behalf," Hearn told iFL TVLink.

"I think he'll kick himself a little bit that he didn't do more in the fight. But it's very easy sometimes against a very good heavyweight like [Oleksandr] Usyk and like Fury to say, 'you should have done this and you should have been more aggressive, you should have cut the ring off and you should have done this'.

"Fury's very, very good. He's very awkward and he boxed a very smart fight; he didn't want to engage, he held a lot, he was very clever, he made it scrappy and boring and everything he needed to do, and then he produced a fantastic uppercut and a show-reel knockout.

"So I have to give him a lot of credit and respect, as I did when he FaceTimed me on Sunday several times. Gutted for Dillian, he'll come again. I think he was a little bit too respectful in the build-up, especially fight week. Well only fight week, because that was the build-up!

"I think he let Tyson just friend him a little bit before the fight and I think he'll kick himself that he wasn't more aggressive in the fight. But he lost to an excellent heavyweight and congratulations to Tyson Fury."

Prior to the contest, Hearn suggested Fury was not a one-punch knockout artist - which the Gypsy King clearly overcame in front of 94,000 fans last weekend. Hearn admitted Fury was gaining his respect after defeating the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Deontay Wilder, and Whyte in recent years.
