Alright man I'll help you

I use Microsoft movie maker personally. But there's many more to choose from.

But the key is splicing the vids so that you can use them in movie maker.

There are many things out there but most of the time when you make them into a movie file they cut at the end which make them untransferable to movie maker.

So let me help you with that.

First, I want you to get familiar with this site

http://www.keepvid.com

OK, keep this site up.

Let's say you wanted to rip a vid from youtube

for example, this one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNxD77jTi3Q

I can tell by your name that this a vid you would like to have

OK. Don't do anything yet. Get the youtube page up by clicking that youtube link I just gave you. ok.

Now I want you to go download this, click on the link below. ok, you now have Riva. The best in the bizz imo.

Riva

ok. You now have both the Riva flv player and the riva flv encoder.

Now I want you to take the url from the youtube vid.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNxD77jTi3Q

And copy and paste it on the site http://www.keepvid.com

like this is the keepvid site

on the side where it says "Any site" scroll down to youtube like this.

ok, now, copy and paste the link from the youtube vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNxD77jTi3Q in the blank area given, so after that the page should look like this

Press download And it should give you a link on the page. Looks like this

I highlighted the area for you.

Now here's the important AND CRUCIAL part.

right click the words "Download link" and select "Save as" alright, then name it whatever you want. But MAKE SURE that you put .flv at the end of it and then save it. If I were you I'd save it to the desktop to make it easier to find.

Alright you have now saved it as flash media. And you can play it in Riva flv player. And thats all you need if you just want vids from youtube to play. But since you want to edit them in a system called movie maker.

Time to use the flv encoder

Open The Riva encoder and as the input(at the top) Browse and select the flv video you just downloaded to your computer

DO NOT SELECT ENCODE YET!!!!

If you'll notice in the output(not the input) box, it still has .flv at the end of the vid's name. Change that to
.wmv

Then press Encode. And wait, it will seem like it freezes on you but it doesn't. Once finished look at the desktop and you will have the vid as both an flv and a wmv, and the wmv may be edited in movie maker.

Hope that helps, but thats just getting the vid on your computer and editable, movie maker is a whooole other world to enter

If this didn't help you get the vids to edit, I'll refer you to this guys tutorial

he probably does a better job explaining all this then I do.
