jose torres was just before carlos but i thought it would be sixto? it may be difficult these days to collect all four belts but i think it was just as tough to become champion when there was only one belt. another question slightly related, how long before it starts being called the five belt era with the ring belt included?

Sixto! Man... you ARE a boxing historian.

Yeah... Sixto Escobar was actually the first Puerto Rican world boxing champion. Back then it seems there was only one belt (the NBA, which would later become the WBA).

Waaayyy before my time... but I know there is actually a sports complex named after him in Old San Juan.

Jose "Chegui" Torres was another great one, and world champion as well. Yes... he was right around the time of Carlos Ortiz.

You know... you do a search on all three of them... and they all appear as undisputed champions at one time or another (again... fewer belts). So I'm not quite clear on the Amanda Serrano claim, unless like you said... they mean in the 4-belt era.

amanda is the first four belt undisputed champion from puerto rico, i could even accept the first undisputed featherweight champion from puerto rico but she is not the first undisputed champion from puerto rico. got to show respect to the greats of the past
