Scott Harrison's Loses WBO title, to remain in Spanish jail

WBO Super Featherweight champion Scott Harrison was due in court in Spain today to face a hearing to see whether he would be bailed or not. With his defence against Nicky Cook less than a month away, FW had basically said that if he wasn't bailed, then it was almost impossible he would fight Cook, and would thus be stripped of his title. Juan Manuel Marquez would then become the champion, as he is currently holding the interim strap, and a mooted meeting between him, who is fight-ready after his Jimrex Jaca fight fell through, and Cook, who would be fight-ready in December, and a meeting between those two would be JMM's first defence.

So does anyone know what the bloody hell's happened, I haven't heard a peep about it all day!

I dont know man,Iv been thinkin the same thing,Iv been checking bbc.co.uk and there's no further news from what Frank Warren had to say on Saturday night and Ithink maybe the BBC website would be the place with news first.

I've been trawling all of the same news sites, even tried googling Scott Harrison's name and wading through the crap that pops up, still no news. I think he might have been remanded in custody, cause there's nothing about it on frank warren's site, and if he was released, I imagine FW would be crowing trying to sell more tickets for the Dec 9 fights.

CRUNCH TIME FOR HARRISON

WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison is awaiting a decision on whether he will be released from a Spanish jail.

Harrison's legal team have submitted papers to a judge in Malaga arguing for his release after the Scot was arrested over an alleged assault on October 6.

Harrison is not scheduled to appear in court but the judge has the papers in front of him and is due to make a decision.

Promoter Frank Warren had set Monday as a deadline for Harrison to be freed or be forced to pull out of a scheduled title defence against Nicky Cook in London on December 9.

Harrison had been expected to face court on Monday but Warren was "driven round the bend" waiting in vain for news.

But the Sports Network chief earlier revealed the Cambuslang fighter could still fight former European champion Cook next month if his release is secured.

Warren said: "Yesterday when they put in the bail application it was written up the wrong way.

"The judge has got the papers in front of him now and he will give his decision today.

"He has got a case on at the moment and he will make his decision when he has some spare time, in the lunch break or something."If Harrison is released, he will face tests to see if he is physically and mentally fit to fight the undefeated Essex-based Cook.

Harrison will lose his belt if he does not defend it on December 9, with Mexico's Juan Manuel Marquez poised to assume the world title.

The 29-year-old pulled out of a fight with Gary St Clair in May before checking in to the Priory clinic suffering from alcohol problems and depression.

Scott Harrison appears to be a good for nothing, unprofessional, ungrateful waste of space. Nobody seems to be missing him too much, so he was not even a particularly highly regarded fighter by the looks?

The sooner he gets kicked out and stops bringing the sport into disrepute, the better.

Well wasnt he n.1 in the WBC Rankings Smash?? Has he runied that chance by agreeing to fight Scott?? I hope not i like Cook. I think he will get his chance.

I heard that it was practically a done deal, if Scott didn't get out the Cookie would be fighting JMM in December. They're both practically ready to go, and JMM won't find a better opponent who's well-prepared at such short notice. If that indeed is the kind of opponent he's looking for. According to the BBC website yesterday, it was due to take place yesterday, however checking back this morning, it said that the hearing was in fact due to take place today. Watch and wait is the name of the game.

Even if the Spanish court allows Harrison bail it is difficult to see how Harrison can satisfy the WBO and British Boxing Board of Control that he is fit to box December 9 against Nicky Cook in London. Harrison, who is also facing assault charges in the UK, has admitted to drink problems and has claimed to be suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

Derry Mathews has been lined up to face the undefeated Cook in a WBU title fight, which, obviously, is a huge step backwards for Cook.

Okay, finally some sense at least, this explains why the court hearing was moved a day forward....Harrison's legal team are a bunch of incompetent buffoons. Doesn't seem to be good news for the whisky-addled scot at the present time. I'd bet a week of coolclicks that he doesn't step in the ring on Dec 9 still holding the WBO belt.
