Re: ufc and pride, what are the exact differences?
UFC is a regional orginization (N America) that uses a cage allows elbows, but not kicks and knees to a downed opponent. UFC fights are 3 five minute rounds with championship fights being 5 rounds. Many of the current Pride fighters were once in the UFC. The UFC has gone away from international fighters in favor of more homegrown talent. I assume this is to gain American fans. Pride is based out of Japan but boasts a stable of international of fighters which is much deeper a fighter pool than UFC. It does not allow elbows but does allow kicks(stomps, soccer kicks, knees) to a fighter on the ground. Pride fights usually have a 10 min round followed by two 5 min rounds.(I might be incorrect on the number and length of the rounds following round 1.) The two org also use a slightly different judging criteria. Pride also has a card process similar to point deductions in boxing to keep fighters from stalling. B/C of its depth Pride typically puts on better cards. It simply has more "name" fighters to make intriguing matchups. You will see advocates of each org bashing the other all the time. UFC has a lot of good but raw fighters and with Prides arrival in the US, White will have to start paying his fighters better, and I anticipate it will bring the overall level of fighters up in the UFC. The reality is that although Pride has a deeper talent pool, there are several fighters from the UFC that would challenge any Pride champion(other than Fedor). Pride boasts and outstanding HW and LHW division with the likes of Fedor, Crocop, Nogs, Barnett, Hearing, Silva, Arona, and Rua. The UFC is pretty week at HW and other than Chuck there is no one proven at LHW only prospects and Ortiz. The UFC makes its money at the MW/WW/LW with several top fighters. The WW div holds probably the top three WW's in the world in Hughes/Penn/GSP. In the end I enjoy watching both org. I think most objective people will agree that both org are good for MMA and attempt to make the best fights in their respective stable.
