True.

Howver my point was that I cannot give a F*** if someone I don't know or care about dies. Especially when all of society goes into tooth gnashing bleating about it simply because they are expected to.

Muhammad Ali means a lot to me, and I will be genuinely grieving when the time comes.

Others, to whom he means nothing, will not. At least they will be being honest - like I am.

I'm with X here... kind of... Every time some one dies on the internet there are 1000s of threads full of 'RIP' etc... but people are just going through the motions... unless I genuinley feel a connection to the person (such as Ali) or know them then I won't S***: people die all the time.

I don't agree with making jokes about it, disrespectful or not it's not exactly nice for the people who genuinley loved the dead to see all the cheap crap flying around is it?
It's hypocritical and patronising to be honest. Basically what X is saying is that when he pays respect to someone who has died it's a worthy and meaningful act but when others do it, it means nothing. Can you (X) not comprehend that the way you feel about Ali, some people might actually have felt the same way about other people?

Personally I was very upset to hear of the death of Steve Irwin, and I'm sure many millions of others were around the world. To suggest that all of them, and me, were just mimicking politically correct banalities whilst your own words of respect towards Ali are somehow heartfelt and more worthy just makes no sense to me.

Paying respects to the dead or the misfortunate is not or certainly should not be a case of miming or going through the politically correct motions. It's about respect, plain and simple. I do not need to have known someone personally in order to feel sorry for their loss, if you do then that says more about yourself than about the rest of the world.

By the way, this was aimed at X not AdamGB :P
