I loved Gene Hackman as Lex Luther in the Superman films which were huge at the time. He told John Travolta to put clauses in his film contract that made sure he was home by a certain time and other benefits. John did not know he could demand things like that.

Hackman was one of my very favorite actors ever. In fact, my favorite movie was mostly because of Gene Hackman.... Crimson Tide. He and Denzel Washington were both stellar in that movie, but Hackman stole the show. He also did Enemy of the State with Will Smith. Honestly, I don't recall ever seeing a Hackman movie I didn't like.

One of the greatest of all time. No doubt about it.

Sad way for him to go out whatever it was that happened. Will always be Lex Luthor to me though the first time I ever saw him was in the Poseidon adventure.

The Conversation is a great movie too. The seventies was the golden years of Hollywood.

Phenomenal actor who just absorbed into the role he was playing. Sinister, wholesome or indifferent he just had that ability about him. Maybe cliche but came off as the everyman actor and was never much to flaunt "star power" of the Hollywood thing. Random favs early were one the French Connection, always right at the very top. I remember one called the Conversation that stood out. Just one of those off the wall roles directed by Coppola. Bite the Bullet was good and he killed the smaller role of Polish commander in A Bridge too far. Poseidon Adventure, Mississippi Burning, Unforgiven and Bat-21 were absolutely awesome. Stood out in Uncommon Valor too. One of the very best to ever fill the big screen, rest in peace Gene Hackman.

They don't even make one film a year that I want to watch these days. If I do watch a movie now it's most likely something from the seventies.
