My condolences to George, George, George, George, George and……….and his daughter Georgetta (lol) That's not meant to be disrespectful because I’m sure even George would found the humour in that well post 1990 George would, pre 1975 George would have killed me.

And that’s the thing about George, he went from being a moody guy who probably took himself too seriously in the younger years, to being one of the most likeable ex boxers out there.

What fighter can say they’ve had 2 HOF careers ? George could. Young George and Older George.

What fighter can say they made more money when they retired than when they fought ? George could

76 isn’t super old, but I suppose you don’t get many 76-year-old guys who are 250 pounds, added to that, because of his granite chin he took a lot of punishment so maybe 76 is good age for him to bow out and be with the Lord he knelt to for decades

After his shocking loss to Muhammad Ali in the "Rumble in the Jungle," he returned a decade later, and at 45, reclaimed the heavyweight title by knocking out Michael Moorer, becoming the oldest champion ever. Outside the ring, he was a beloved figure, known for his incredible comeback, infectious personality, and entrepreneurial success. A true legend whose impact on boxing will last forever. It’s sad that we’ve lost Ali, Foreman, and Frazier while Arum and King are still around.

The most powerful punching heavyweight champion ever. Just brutal, heavy handed natural born destroyer. He amazing destroyed the undefeated Joe Frazier at 24 years old, Olympic champ and destroyed Norton in his early defences as champ.

They thought he was going to kill Ali in Zaire but that fight made George. Foreman chased the rematch, beat up 5 people in one day, the slugfest with Lyle, destroyed Frazier again but losing to Young retired him to work with the youth and vulnerable.

Then the amazing comeback to try and beat Tyson. George made money and recaptured the tile after a failed attempt against Evader Holyfield. Big George carefully managed who he fought but Moorer was suckered into taking that right hand. To win the world title after 20 years at 45 years of age is truly amazing.

I am sure he made good money selling that George Foreman grill. Big George always talked well about everyone and was a genuinely good guy.

RIP Champ. Up there with the legends.

I’ve been thinking about Big George all weekend.

There have always been threads on here about Young George v Old George. The youth, physicality and sheer malevolent power that he had in his first incarnation ….. compared to the ring smarts, IQ and patience he showed later.

We have also seen threads wondering how we missed the real prime of Muhammad Ali, after he was put into exile. To a much lesser extent, people say the same thing about Tyson’s jail time.

Ali was out of the ring for less that four years, Iron Mike for three years.

Foreman was 28 when he disappeared, and he was out for TEN YEARS.

Look what we missed out on, arguably more than with Ali and Tyson. Foreman would have been at his physical heavyweight peak, he would have begun to merge the two George’s together. Ali was in decline (and would have run a mile from getting in the ring with George unless he had to), Holmes was still young and green. It’s possible Foreman would have dominated the division for quite some time and burnished his undeniable legend even further.

(although George later did say the defeat was the best thing that happened to him, as a human being)
