Default How does Lennox do in today's HW division.

Found this video on youtube earlier with someone assessing how Lewis would fare in today's HW crop. Decent video

I'll give people a chance to watch first before adding comment

Prime Lennox Lewis should beat them all but with grades of difficulty.

Lennox was vulnerable when he was with the trainer Pepe and lost to McCall and he did take Rahman for granted in South Africa nor acclimatising to the altitude. Other than those losses he was the greatest British heavyweight we have ever had.

Lennox v AJ would be a huge battle of Britain dwarfing Lewis v Bruno which was not that huge by todays standards. They would fill Wembley easy. Forget Cardiff stadium. I see Lennox cautious against a peak AJ (which was against Wlad) early and then pick up the pace and stop AJ late in the fight.

Lennox v Fury is the most difficult because of Gypsy King height, reach and boxing skills. Stylistically it would not be a good watch but could see Lennox try and walk through Fury and bully him into submission. I can see Tyson surviving to see himself lose by decision. That fight would fill out Wembley too. Peak Fury was against Wlad too.

Lennox v Usyk is actually the most difficult not Fury. I take that back. This is a tough one but think Lennox would be getting out boxed for large periods of the fight but with Manny Steward he gets his composure and starts to time his attacks to hurt the Ukrainian to the body and win by close decision.

Lennox would walk through and obliterate Dubois and make him quit early to mid-rounds. No messing about from Lennox who would get inside the head of triple D. He could KO him like he did Grant or Galota.

Lennox v Parker and Agit would be wins by stoppage mid to late as they would not offer him much of a challenge. Except complacency which was always the downfall of Lennox Lewis.

Let’s be honest , and I’m not Lewis’s biggest fan, but he wipes the floor with all the modern day fighters except Usyk.
I think Usyk would win more rounds with his skill and movement than Lewis would with his jab.
Having said that, Lewis did beat Holyfield, who although he doesn’t quite fight like Usyk, there are comparisons that can be made.
Styles make fights , Holyfield v Usyk now that would be a barnstormer.

I criticised Lewis at the time for being a great athlete, but not a real old school experienced fighter who had paid his dues on the way up. I thought he was a bit gun-shy. That’s how boxing was then …… and that’s how many real fighters were around.

Since then, I’ve seen AJ, Wilder and also loads of fat blokes who can’t really box properly, so that’s me told.

History will be kind to Lewis, but he is at peak reputation right now ….. a retired fighter, still being spoken about because he has not really been retired so long that he is from another era. Some real fans remember him fighting, and they will have some rose tinted glasses when they reminisce about the fighters from their own youth. His reputation will drop soon as memories of him recede into time.

That said, the guy was the real thing wasn’t he. Big, clever, powerful, slick boxer/puncher. Beat everyone he faced in a pro ring. Olympic gold medal too.

He exposes and ruins AJ. Boxes rings around Dubois after making him doubt himself during the build up. Looks bad but beats a strong journeyman in Parker every time. Makes Zhang look like he fights in slow motion. Doesn’t get psyched out by Fury and wins after Fury’s propensity to get hit too much finally catches up with him.

Usyk is the best boxer around today. But Lewis was the best boxer around in his time too. Both Olympic champs, but Lennox was always a big man and I think he would have been a little bit too much for Usyk.

I was surprised the guy saw Parker going the distance with Lewis. I think Parker would be stopped before the midway point.

Prime AJ would be competitive for three or four rounds but Lewis would start to get to him and hurt him. Can't see AJ getting to the tenth.

For me prime Fury is the difficult one. He's awkward and bigger than Lewis. Two of the best boxing brains we've seen. This goes the distance but I think Lewis edges it both skill and precision wise and wins by two or three rounds.

I see Usyk as an easier night for Lennox. Two highly skilled boxers but the bigger man will hurt Usyk and maybe stop him late on. Fury lost two very close fights with Usyk (I don't accept that four round margin in the second) and I still believe prime Fury beats Usyk hence saying Fury would be the most difficult.

Lennox truly was a great. Lost to Rahman due to inexplicable complacency and lost to McCall but both avenged - he also should have been given chance to carry on against McCall. Yes it's likely McCall would have stopped a still groggy Lewis but he was champion and should have been given the chance.
