Dwight Muhammad Qawi story is amazing as he only took up boxing at 25 years of age in prison serving time for armed robbery. He became champion stopping the great Matthew Saad Muhammad and beating him again in a title defence.

Qawi lost to one of the great light heavyweights Micheal Spinks and went on to win a cruiserweight title and losing to another great, Evander Holyfield in an action packed 15 rounder by split decision.

Qawi was short and stocky with a bob and weave style where he used the cross-arm defence which worked a treat when he within punching distance of his opponents. He was relentless and his contest with Real Deal is an all time classic.

    RIP champ.

Hagler did not have the luxury of jumping up to super middleweight. It was light heavyweight or nothing and Spinks would have been favourite to beat Marvin.

dwight didn't have that luxury either, he was straight into light heavy, then cruiser & heavy

Qawi moved up because he had to. He lost the titles and had to seek new challenges. If Hagler lost during his reign he may have been forced to move up weight.

Yes in that regard, Qawi was truly amazing. Very few fighters could achieve what he did.
