Why was a title fight only 10 rounds? That was an excellent contest.

I was totally proven wrong by Crawford. Much respect to the man. He came from three divisions down to beat an 168-pounder who likely came into the ring weighing at least 15 pounds over that. I for one gave Bud no chance. I didn't think he'd be another Amir Khan... but no way did I think he could get a decision over Canelo in Vegas. He wasn't going to knock him out, either.

I can see the arguments about Crawford not being a GOAT simply because of his relative inactivity... and the lack of huge names on his resume. He certainly seemed to waste a lot of his career.
But DAMN..... credit where credit is due.
Let's list the factors that were stacked against Crawford for this fight:

    1. He literally came from 3 divisions down. People keep saying 2. But facts are he only fought one fight at 154 and failed to put the opponent away. Translation: He didn't carry his power into 154.
    2. He is OLDER than Canelo. This one doesn't get mentioned much.
    3. Canelo is the protected DIVA of boxing. You practically have to knock him out, to hope to get a decision win from the judges.
    4. Admittedly, Canelo has a great chin. So again... Bud wasn't going to knock him out.

Needless to say, I'm super ecstatic over the outcome. All the legacy talk can now go out the window. Will Canelo be a HOF'er? Sure. He's been a great 168-pounder. Beyond that, however... he just can't be viewed in the same light as some of the previous, great Mexican champions. Hopefully he retires soon... because he sure as hell isn't looking to fight someone like David Benavidez. And frankly... many people have begun getting tired of the act.

Terence Crawford's win against Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez to become the undisputed super-middleweight champion attracted an estimated total of 41.4 million viewers, says Netflix.

However, it was well below the estimated 125 million who watched Youtuber-turned boxer Jake Paul's bout against former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson in November 2024 on the streaming platform.

Because that was not for a title, Netflix described Crawford-Canelo as the "most-viewed men's championship boxing match this century".

Katie Taylor's win against Amanda Serrano in their second fight, which was on the undercard of the Tyson-Paul card, attracted an estimated 74 million live viewers globally and 47 million viewers in the US.

Crawford-Canelo attracted 36.6 million on the day of the fight, while the rest watched it within a day of the bout.

In terms of concurrent streams, Netflix said the fight had a peak of 24 million as opposed to the Tyson Paul peak of 65 million.

Crawford beat Canelo on points to claim the WBA (Super), WBC, WBO and IBF super-middleweight titles as he became the first male fighter in the modern era to hold undisputed titles in three weight divisions.

The WBC also ordered an immediate rematch between Christian Mbilli and Lester Martinez for Mbilli's WBC interim super middleweight title, following a successful request from Martinez's team for a second meeting.

The first I heard of Terrance Crawford was when he beat Briedis Prescott and was considered an up and rising US star. He was good beating Ricky Burns for the lightweight title. Burns went on to win a world title at light welterweight so was not finished at the elite level.

I always thought Crawford would not beat Spence and was avoiding him. When they did fight he was pure quality and thoroughly dominated Errol in a one-sided beating. I then looked back at his previous fights and can see he has always been a quality boxer. He is calm, calculating and destructive when he goes in for the kill. Saw him in a whole different light after that win.

I still did not think he would beat Canelo or get the decision but again he was just as dominant and flawless. Usyk and Bud are the top p4p boxers today. Inoue a close 3rd. Bivol/Beterbiev and Bam Bam next.
