Shocked by this and cant believe it is true.

Ricky was preparing for an exhibition in December so thought he would have something to focus on.

Ricky was the first big PPV star who never fought on terrestrial TV. He had a huge following that only British heavyweight's like Cooper and Bruno could command.

If Frank Warren had his way he would still be defending his WBF title today but Ricky wanted to face the best.

Beating Kostya was the greatest night and was over 20 years ago! He unified titles and went up in weight to prove his world class status. He challenged the best and that is why the fans loved him.

Ricky was funny and a great personality.

RIP Champ you brought us some amazing memories.

Absolutely gutted. What times we had back in the day. One of the greatest body punchers I've ever seen. RIP Ricky.

Absolutely devasted to hear this news yesterday. Some of my best memories were of attending his fights in England and Las Vegas, I doubt no other boxer past or present will have a traveling army of fans like he did.

    RIP Ricky

So many great stories being shared on phone in talk shows, Social media etc from fans who found him to be as entertaining outside of the ring as inside it. This one from a woman on facebook made me laugh

"I met him a couple of times in Tenerife, dead friendly and was happy chatting and drinking with everyone around him in the bar we were drinking in,I bumped into him a couple of nights later, same bar but he was leaving,he kept saying to me “shhhhh” and then he showed under his jacket,he’d been in to kitchen and pinched the sandwich toaster to take back to his villa to make himself a sandwich when he got it.

He was drunk but very funny,no harm in him at all.

Sorry to the Dubliner for not letting you know what he was doing but I couldn’t stand the thought of him not getting his toasted cheese sarnie !"

    Ha! What a ledge
