Default Ben Whittaker v Benjamin Gavazi

Ben Whittaker will headline against Benjamin Gavazi in Birmingham on his promotional debut for Matchroom on 29 November.

I do not know who he is but Ben left Boxxer to join Eddie Hearn's stable at the beginning of October.

Whittaker, 28, will place his undefeated record against German Gavazi in a light-heavyweight bout.

"Ben Whittaker is the greatest signing any promoter in the world could have made and he levels up from the get-go in front of his home fans in Birmingham," Hearn said.

Gavazi will fight outside Germany for just the second time in his career and is on a 19-fight unbeaten streak since losing his professional debut in 2018.

The rivals will contest the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) 'silver' light-heavyweight title.

Whittaker currently sits at number nine in the WBC's rankings for the world title held by David Benavidez.

Benavidez is scheduled to defend the belt against Londoner Anthony Yarde on 22 November in Saudi Arabia.

Former UFC fighter Molly McCann is also in action at the National Exhibition Centre.

McCann started her boxing career with a win in Belfast in September.

The co-main event will be a rematch between lightweights Cameron Vuong and Gavin Gwynne.

Olympic boxing silver medallist Ben Whittaker has trained at the University of Wolverhampton's sports performance facility ahead of his headline clash in Birmingham next month.

The undefeated 28-year-old faces Benjamin Gavazi on 29 November and used the state-of-the art facilities and met students during his session last week.

He took part in a day of performance testing and analysis, including assessments of body composition and metabolic function, the university said.

"The facilities here are top-level, and the team really know their stuff. It's great to be able to work with people who are passionate about sport and performance - it makes a big difference in the build-up to a fight," he said.

His visit was organised through his nutritionist, who has previously collaborated with the university on a number of elite athlete programmes, the university said.

The visit not only supported Whittaker's training camp but also gave students a rare opportunity to work alongside a world-class athlete and gain experience in elite sports science practice, the spokesperson added.

"Having an elite athlete of Ben's calibre in the building not only showcases the level of applied sport science we deliver, but also highlights the benefit of having world-class sports science facilities here at the University of Wolverhampton," said Dr Ross Cloak, associate professor of sport and exercise science and laboratory director.

"These resources allow us to support elite performers while giving our students invaluable, hands-on experience working directly with world-class professionals during their training camps.

"The students involved on the day did a fantastic job, and it was great to hear such positive feedback from Ben and his team."

Is Ben still clowning around in the ring? I hope so. As opposed to past clowns in the ring, I actually like to see Ben do his thing. He seems a likable enough guy outside the ropes... and honestly, he's pretty entertaining in the way he fights. Not sure why I like this particular clown and not others. But I'm ok with it. If you've got it, flaunt it, like they say. Not sure if he can maintain that level of "clowning" if he were to get in the ring with an elite light heavy. Probably not. But for now, I enjoy watching him.

Ben is still a novice and learning his trade. I hoped he stayed with Shalom and was on the BBC as he would be huge.

Liam story is a good one and he seems to have his head on right and training well. Hope they both continue to do well.
