Had the off day but no way I was waking up at 5am or putting down for the PPV. Caught most on rewatch. Honestly thought Junto v Hernandez could have gone either way by 1,2 points. Seen a lot of back lash about how-why it's so terrible to "marinate" big fights as in cases like this they can easily be ruined or lost. But I think in examples like this it's a real misuse of the term. Nothing was marinating here, Nakatani was literally making his division debut and no debut, imo, should be for an immediate title shot. This is actually the way to do it...jump up and face a live dog and natural 122 pounder. If it's a tough fight that doesn't instantly translate to Junto being "overrated" or terrible etc. If anything, it means Hernandez was overlooked-assumed-or disregarded because fans (we) had the blinders on to someone new or lesser known by the masses. Also wakes Nakatani up that he's overselling for power and needs to keep it smart going up. It doesn't help at all that every single ranking body saw fit to give Junto a free pass to the literal #1 position in their alphabet group division that he had never ever fought...again, to sound like a broken record, but we have divisions for a reason. And you have to do it proper moving up. Politically in the ranks (climb them, beat your way up) but also to the fighter not shortchanging themselves and just coming in thru the backdoor. And if a guy does move up as we've all seen it the past and does get knocked off or knocked out and a 'super fight' is lost as a result...well that's how boxing goes . Do we really want to wrap name fighters in safety bubbles just to preserve something that ultimately just maybe they weren't up for?! *Cough Haney-Garcia II cough. I've said it a thousand times and you can put in on my headstone, but underdogs and to a degree upsets make the boxing world turn. They really do keep it going and you get the chance to get exposed to another solid contender who was just needing a shot. Let the chips fall where they may. This is a sport and it's not always going to go handheld and according to perfect plans. There is building to huge match ups and Inoue and Junto riding the same card was the way it's been done for a very long time. To me Junto being in a very competitive and controversial scrap does not tarnish the future fight at all.
