Default Tyson Fury v Arslanbek Makhmudov

Former heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury will face Arslanbek Makhmudov in the UK on 11 April as he ends his latest spell of retirement.

The fight, which will be broadcast on Netflix, will be Fury's first since he lost his rematch with unified champion Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.

The Briton, 37, retired a month after that defeat but announced his return to boxing earlier this month.

"Excited to be back," Fury said.

"Heart's always been and always will be in boxing. Someone go tell the king that the ace is back!"

Russian Makhmudov, 36, has won 21 of his 23 fights and beat Briton Dave Allen in his last bout in October.

Fury, who announced his retirement for the first time in 2022, has not fought in the UK since December 2022 when he beat Derek Chisora at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to retain the WBC title.

The Morecambe fighter has 34 victories from 37 fights - winning 24 by knockout - losing two and drawing one.

He has enjoyed two stints as world champion, beating Wladimir Klitschko to win the WBA (Super), IBF and WBO belts in 2015 and claiming the WBC title in 2020 with victory over Deontay Wilder, but has never reigned as undisputed champion.

Fury's two career defeats came in successive bouts against Usyk in 2024 and he has spoken of a desire to avenge those losses this year.

It is also striking given Fury is promoted by Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions, who broadcast exclusively with Dazn. Yet Warren has allowed the Gypsy King to step outside that arrangement on this occasion.

"Tyson wants to return to the throne and I'm 100% behind him to do just that," Warren posted on X.

This marks Fury's first bout in the UK since December 2022, after three straight appearances in Saudi Arabia.

The number of shows taking place in Riyadh may be dwindling but the money and influence behind the sport remain Saudi-led. The fight is backed by Turki Alalshikh - chairman of Saudi's General Sports Authority - under the Ring Magazine banner.

Makhmudov beat Dave Allen in his last fight and got stopped by Agit Kabayel who is now the second best heavyweight in the division.

Makhmudov is big, strong and throws a lot of punches. He has slow feet and is the perfect test for Fury in his first fight after 15 months out of the ring.

Netflix has taken on the biggest boxing contest recently so seem to have taken over DAZN.

Tyson Fury has suggested he is already at his target weight ahead of his comeback fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov.

He wrote: "Already on weight nine weeks out. I'm seriously going to smash Arslanbek Makhmudov."

The scales showed that he tipped the scales at 18 stone 11 pounds [263lbs].

It seems him already 18lbs lighter than he was for his second meeting with Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024.

Fury Sr said: "I am going to be more involved this time.

“And hear this, Tyson’s going to win the heavyweight championship for the third time, and you can bank your f***ing money on that!

“He’s not in fantastic shape, that’s bull****. But he will be.

"Have another look at him, because when I go out in the next week, there will be no more of this internet bull****, every move on the internet.

"Head down, work, and get a body. Learn to move again. Learn to twist and be awkward. Herky jerky.

"If it is fat, it matters. Anybody will tell you that. But listen, we know where we are going.

"I know where he went wrong. I know. And we are going to put it right."

AN INCREDIBLE throwback photo of Tyson Fury posing with a then-unknown Arslanbek Makhmudov has resurfaced.

The image, shared online, shows the heavyweight stars smiling together at the Billy Joe Saunders vs David Lemieux fight night in Montreal back in 2017.

The Russian puncher, 36, posted the throwback with an emotional message, revealing how the moment symbolised a dream come true.

He wrote: “10 years ago I took a photo as a fan, today we are already opponents in the ring!

“This is the moment when the dream comes true! And if the Lord has led this fight to me, he will bring victory for me Insha’Allah.”

Fury himself responded to the resurfaced memory, explaining the snap was taken during what he described as a “terrible time away from boxing.”

The Gypsy King replied: “This was 2017 in Montreal, it was during my terrible time away from boxing.

“God works in mysterious ways and brings people together unexpectedly, whatever God has planned for us will be!”

Fury has previously spoken openly about his struggles with his mental health, when he was out of the sport before eventually returning to reclaim his place at the top of the heavyweight division.
