    Default Ruben Castillo RIP

Ruben Castillo passed away earlier today. He fought Alexis Arguello and Salvador Sanchez within 90s days of each other and it is very possible that his last words were "I beat Sanchez, watch the fight." Quality fighter.
He was also a quality commentator with a great sense of humor. There are at least a couple of us here that remember him from Fight Night at The Forum.

I remember Castillo. He also fought Juan Laporte here in PR back in '83. He was a tough customer. His four tries at a world title were against some of the very best. Arguello, Sanchez, Laporte, then JCC. Doesn't get much tougher than that.
    R.I.P., Ruben.

I will research him because he had the misfortune or honour of facing some great boxers.

To me the everyman top fighter. Always came off like that and no doubt his commentary alongside Chick Hearn was some of the best . One of the best pairings with local venues ever imo. They just made you smile with some off the wall stuff being honest. Didn't see him "live" until the comebacks but traded up for all his title cracks and really was a very fundamentally sound championship caliber fighter. Remember thinking Sanchez got the cards, but it's been ages. Got into judging fights for a bit too. Rest easy now Champion. And fuck cancer!
