    Default I don't get Hatton

I respect his skill, but why is he trying to go after Mayweather right now? Win the Urango fights, and the next one he has set up, then beat Castillo or Cotto at 140 or 147, and then ask for a fight. His Tszyu fight was a long time ago simply becuase of his performance against Collazo. IMO Oscar Dela Hoya due to size, power ,and his jab/left hook would destroy Hatton who was getting worn down by Collazo, and though matchups make fights I think Oscar is a far more formidable opponent, and I think even Margaritto due to size and power would give Hatton a difficult fight where Mayweather would IMO easily beat Margaritto. Speed as Jones has said about himself and Mayweather is too great of a factor to overcome against 99% of the competition, and Hatton is part of the 99%... Now we'll have to see if Oscar is.

Who knows how the mind of the British Troll works? I don't waste my time trying to figure it out. Margarito would KO him IMO. Anyway is the Urango fight at 140 still on?

I agree, at 147 Ricky gets beat by Mayweather, Margarito, Cintron, Williams. Oscar is just way to big at 154. If they fought it would be like De La Hoya against Gatti and wouldnt go 6 rounds.

But to be honest of the four fighters above that I've mentioned I don't see Ricky going the distance with any either.

He's better off at 140 lb, but should forget about calling out the likes of Mayweather because its just not realistic.

His best fights will come at 140 either against Castillo, Coralles and possibly Cotto if he stays at 140 long enough.

    Now then.

Where have you heard he wants Floyd now?, and by now you mean next fight ?
Seems a strange thing to ask considering Hatton already has his next two fights planned, and Mayweather has not figured in the plans for either of those fights.

Now of course at some point he is bound to bring up Floyds name, which he has been now for some time, along with Cotto's and Castillo.

It would be plain suicide for Hatton to fight Oscar imo, styles make fights and even if the fight was at welter ( which was offered by ODLH ) Hatton would lose.

Funny you don't get Hatton cause you both seem to have the same idea.

"He says (Mayweather) that I've priced myself out of a fight but I wasn't even aware that I've asked for a price because my next two fights are done deals," Hatton told Sportsweek.

Hatton wont be going to 147 untill he cant make 147, im prety sure of that..... Of course unless Collazo emerges as a serious geezer at 147 (which i doubt).

That being said, i think the talk of a Mayweather fight is just rumors.
We all know both fighters have their own plans and schedules.

hatton isn't calling out mayweather. he is stating his intentions which is to eventually set up a mega fight with floyd. so he ISN'T going after mayweather right now. he wants a brawl with castillo first.

IMO if your going to bad mouth another boxer its the same thing as calling him out... Hatton says he would love to fight Mayweather then badmouths him IMO thats calling him out. If he isn't calling him out, then he shouldn't be saying anything because unlike Floyd, Hatton isn't an asshole.

Hatton is basically too short to work his style against the bigger opponent.

I reckon Hatton, with his excellent nutrionalist, Kerry Kayes, could even boil down to lightweight if he really wanted to.

It's not that Hatton is a worse fighter than the aforementioned - far from it.

Infact i dare say he could beat anybody in the world who is like-for-like in stature (5'6), but when he comes up against naturally bigger guys he is giving them a tremendous chance of taking the victory.

Wheras Floyd, for example, his height & build lends itself more to slightly higher weights - and given his style (the total opposite of Hatton) he can fend for himself against these types of opponents.

Hatton's 'in your face' style can be negated by the bigger fighter.

Like every other neutral boxing fanatic, a match-up with Mayweather is a dream come true - but i believe HBO are trying to build his profile first for maximum impact stateside, should this bout ever be made.

Hence the choice of opponents leading to criticsm in some parts. By the close of 2007, i believe boxing fans will see Hatton either in / or planning a large showdown with one of the other marquee fighters in or around the 140/147 mark.

    Fingers crossed.

    excellent points

on a side note: what if Oscar has only changed his mind about retiring because he has a hand shake with Hatton that if he beats Castillo he gets a shot? Do you think Hatton would turn down $10+ million to step in with Oscar? I doubt it!!

If Hatton ko'd Castillo and Oscar ko's lil'Floyd both around May the exposure and hype would be HUGE.

If Collazo had him on queer street,I can guarantee Tony would KTFO Hatton. If he had Hatton hurt and Hatton kept coming forward because that's the only way he knows how(which is not such a bad thing at 140 but is suicide@147),he would be walking into Tony's power shots.

    Yeah...but isn't Cotto a 160 lber trapped in the 140 class...for now....

I'm guessing you must live in the UK. Oscar probably doesn't even know who Ricky Hatton is. There are a ton of huge fights that Oscar could make. One against a guy two divisions below him (who couldn't hang with a halfway-decent fighter one division below him), with whom no one in the states is familiar, is not one of them.

Seriously, I get that Hatton has a huge hometown crowd. But he's just not a big deal outside of the UK, and none of these fights--against Floyd or against Oscar--would be "mega" in any realistic sense of the word. They'd be huge in the UK. They might do decent money in the US (though Oscar would rightfully be seriously criticized if he took a fight with someone so clearly not on his level at 154).

shza your a fool. of course oscar knows who hatton is. hatton has met dela hoya a few times and of course oscar being a top promoter as well as a profesional fighter is going to know who ricky is. just cos the average yank might not of heard of hatton doesn't mean someone in the buisness hasn't. and a fight between hatton and mayweather would be a 'mega fight' to most boxing fans, just maybe not hardcore fans. about this time last year it was one of the potential match ups that most fans wanted to see, and to a lot of people it still is.
