Default Maybe I'm the only one but.... Well, just take a read!!!

    Maybe its just me but...

I can't get into the UFC... I've tried and tried. I think it is interesting and I always love a good thrashing but I cant get passionate about it... There is just something majestic, nastalgic, and historic about the sport. I will always see it as the king of sports...

2 Gladiators going toe to toe in a chess match one may have speed and slickness, the other, a puncher's chance

The UFC just seems brutal(don't get me wrong I love blood and guts warriors, but this shit is rediculous)

I like watching a sport not a maiming... I watch it with my friends and its OK but nothing will ever, try as it may, take the place of boxing. The promoters and alphabet belts may have splintered the sport and it may be refered to as "dying" but, hey.... I'm a Red Sox fan... We rooted for the underdog for over eighty years

So in closing I don't understand how everyone knows who "The Iceman" is... While Joe Calzaghe could walk down the street in the US and basicly not be noticed. I would rather watch a good fighter be tactically broken down rather then see an orbital crushed by a jackhammering elbow while blood squirts on the mat. Again, this is just my oppinion as I know the sport is hugly popular...

but like a said Maybe its just me!

i gave ufc a fair shot when a friend had a party a while back, i think it was matt hughes vs. royce gracie and this was some mega fight by ufc standards.

i watched it and couldnt get too excited because the matches are around 5 minutes and usually end up rolling around on the ground stretching elbows and bending appendiges the wrong way until one of them beats his hand on the mat because the other guy is hurting him too much (and god forbid they actually do last longer than 5 minutes, cause youre gonna be very bored)

I agree, I can appreciate MMA, but I just can't get into it.

I respect those guys as athletes, and I'll even watch a few matches, I even have
    a favorite fighter: Takanori Gomi.

But boxing will always come first for me.

MMA is definately on an upswing in popularity, the article I posted from pound4pound
about UFC on HBO reflects this.

I think it's because most boxers don't fight enough. They should be fighting 3-4 times a year minimum
    barring an injury.

Also PPV would do much better if they are charging for a fight that's questionable as charging
reduce it to $15 - $20. They would get many more buys that way.

I enjoy mma fights also, but they can also be boring. The biggest thing about mma is it's more realistic. These guys have losses, and they pair up competetive matches all the time. Also the announcers don't ask a guy that was undefeated if he's gonna retire now cause he got his first loss. They keep it more realistic and less political than boxing. Overall it's good, but I like boxing better.

I've watched UFC since back in the day when they had the old school rules. I'm into all the combat arts and really admire them for their skills and physical conditioning. Its one of those sports where you have to have a real understanding of the techniques and skills to really appreciate it. As with most sports, in boxing you really view fights with a different pair of eyes once you have stepped between the ropes, even for a light sparring session. Hell even if you go to a boxing gym and have a real work-out.
I do think that a lot of "fans" have just jumped on the band-wagon and a few go there just to see blood and extreme injury. Any time a fight gets remotely tactical the audience starts booing, which really p@sses me off. It even happens in boxing where you see a fantastically technical and skillful fight and some w@nker will start booing because he just wants to see a slugfest.

MMA is a legitimate sport just like boxing.

It requires technique, training, conditioning, strategy and skill. Sometimes, there are a few talentless cans that get by, but they usually don't last.

The difference is that the guys who do MMA don't get paid shit.

There is NOTHING more compelling than Toe-to-Toe action in boxing. Nothing. Boxing has a faster pace. This coming Morales Pacquiao III fight will give you guys all the reason to believe that.

I got to agree with you POB. I just cant get into it, it is to much of a street fight for me. It takes skill and talent to do well in any type of sport especially a high contact sport. I just think that boxing takes a lot more skill and talent to succeed at the highest level. This may change as the MMA sports get more popular, but I dont see it getting the athletes like other sports do. Boxing and MMA have been replaced by basketball and football as the sports that the less fortunate gravitate to. I think talent wise neither sport will get the cream of the crop, I dont believe that people are into fighting like they once were.

I completely agree with you. Boxing is much more of a sport and a science than the UFC or Pride, although MMA can be entertaining to watch sometimes. It will just never be as cool to me as boxing. The Iceman, lol. I've seen that guy fight inside just winging punches with his eyes closed, leaving himself completely open. A great boxer who had 6 months training in jujitsu would fuck most of the UFC characters up really bad IMO. Too bad you will never see this until the UFC offers close to the purses that boxing does.
