    Default Maskaev-Peter?

who would get this? on paper it looks close! but im just not sure about Oleg. Imo Peter if he worked hard would really start to drive on in the middle rounds and work away at the older man! im curious about this one because its a more than likely match up for the future.....

If Maskaev comes hunched over like last time with a bad back then forget it. But if he can put on a perfromance similar to the once against SSS....then maybe. However, he really can't afford to take one of Peter's head shots.

Peter would kill him, knockout inside 3 rounds.

Maskaev got ko'd by Corey Sanders, and not the one that beat Wlad, I mean the one with the mutant eye who did an exhibition with Tyson recently

And I am willing to bet that Peter would take more than three rounds to KO Corey Sanders too. He's just not that developed yet. Gets way way too much credit.
He has tremendous power, now he needs to gain more experience. Going twelve with was a definite step in the right direction. Time will tell.

i could see it happening toney imo is getting on a bit he is fat! A man like peter really needs to step toney out of the light and he can do this by beating him. Peter imo is going to be a champ and i dont think toney will stop him. We will have to see but i really feel that this guy has a lot to offer!

I doubt it, Tyson had to manually hold him up in their exhibition fight when his very first punch sent Sanders sprawling to the canvas.

The whole rest of the round Ray Mancini and Bob Sheridan were laughing their heads off that Tyson was having to hold Sanders up.

Watch the fight, you really think he'd go 3 rounds with Peter, I say more like 3 seconds :P

Come on guys, Peter would knock this guy out in less than six rounds. Oleg is seriously overrated. He's eating off of his two wins over Rahman (who might be the biggest disappointment in boxing today).

Rahman at the end of the day was a worlc champ he cant be that much of a dissapointment in boxing...he's done what most people would dream to do and that is to lift the heavyweight crown and i know most of you would see he won by default etc etc but he still beat lennox and he did what most could not do....so i personally dont think he is the BIGGEST! dissapointment in boxing today

    TOO TRUE!!!

I tried being a fan of Sam Peter's...I tried to look for the silver lining but it just isn't there! His power does not make up for his lack of boxing ability. His defense is horrid, his jab is that of a 4 year old, his hooks are as wide as his love handles, and right cross He still hasn't heard of it!

If Peter got a good trainer and dedicated himself to being more than just power and set up some of his haymakers then I'd see him as the future of the division but right now I really find it hard to see anyone in the top 10 that he would beat "EASILY".

That pretty much sums it up...

not to mention that he gets frustrated easily and resorts to rabbit punching. This guy is a puncher...not a boxer. He has more problems than assets in my book.

It seems as if 80% of the folks on the forum are holding on to some sort of hope that this guy is going to wake up one day and conquer the division...but based on what he has showed everyone, I really don't understand the fascination with this guy.

He will always be a punchers chance away from winning a fight, and he will always be one fight away from recieving a boxing lesson.

Peter knocks him out in the middle rounds. Oleg's not slick enough to avoid Peter's power. Its a good matchup for Peter IMO.

    Good assesments mucho and OumaFan

I agree Peter just loves his power too much to learn how to BOX...if he set those shots up he'd have a lot more Jeremy Williams style KO's on his record.

Oleg is a brawler, he's a tough old boy and he beat Hasim Rahman twice by standing toe to toe with him and slugging it out. Now Sam Peter isn't the kind of guy you want to do that with, he's heavier than Oleg and "The Big O" doesn't have much in the way of defense.

I would give Calvin Brock a VERY good shot of beating Sam Peter providing he's not as nervous as he was when he fought Wlad. He's all around average and very tough to hit, even with STRAIGHT punches and I think he has decently fast hands too and he goes to the body well also.

But Sam Peter and Nicolay Valuev are two of the ugliest boxers I have ever seen. Valuev looks like he knows how to jab well but god is he awkward....and Sam Peter might as well swing his arms infront of him windmill style and walk towards his opponent

I tell you one thing peter may have the power skill etc.....but one thing i can acctually see this maybe going the full way with the determination of Oleg imo he is a bit like the baldomir of the division he should get that bigger fight in time

I think maskaev is underrated. decent size skill and power wins over rahman cant be brushed aside. BUT! he can be hit and peters can bang. i think the question is if mask can go the distance. if he can i see mask by decision. Peters is just too raw still. a punchers chance.
