Default Old PBF vs. New PBF p4p who is/was better?

New PBF: Trained by his uncle to be a more offensive fighter who gets hit more, and is a little reckless, but he hurts his opponents more, and is alot better against a pressure fighter because now he overwhelms them with a speed and good power instead of being overwhelmed himself, and smothered by their punches (Corley, Ndou, Gatti). Oh yeah also his hits way harder now.

Old PBF: Trained by Floyd Sr. to be a defensive fight he used the jab more working both upstairs and downstairs. He fought a in defense first only hit then its least likely to get countered. He had difficulty back then against more so against more pressure fighters than not(castillo, chavez, and few others) vs. (corrales who couldn't really get in).

    1) Who is or was better p4p IYO
    ,and
    2) Which version would have won had he fought himself were they the same age, size, speed, etc.

I think PBF is smart, I don't think it is a case of old and new PBF, rather he adapts to the fight, tried new things when he knows he can and dam staright, he is one of the most versatile fighters. If you watch after fight interviews with Floyd's opponent's,most say he hits harder than it looks. I think if he ever were to fight Margarito, he would be on his bike but if it's someone he knows he can over power, why run?EG Mitchell etc. Interesting to see which tactic he uses against Zab,mixture of both?

I like the new Floyd a lot more.
He's showing a ton of confidence in recent bouts. Not afraid to stand and trade when warranted.
Because it's not like he completely abandoned his defensive style at all.
A lot of people question his ability to take a punch but I truly truly believe he has a solid chin on him.
I mean he was questionably "rocked" by like what... two or three shots in his entire career? I believe he could take 'em. So standing and trading when the situation is right is a great advantage for him.
Also, it's not like he stands and throws and takes shots recklessly.
His defensive instincts are far beyond anyone elses.
So you take what he already had, and throw in a little more offensive onslaught. You got quite a fuggin' package.

Like you said, his new style allows him to put pressure on guys who otherwised may have bulled him over early in his career.
I love seeing the confidence in his stride nowadays.
    New Floyd, baby.

I've only heard, and seen him stunned once and thats against Corley... I agree he is impressive now, and fun to watch. His combinations have lots of power behind them he doesn't throw 10 punches combinations instead he throws smaller combinations with more power, and he goes to the body in his combinations. His switch reflexes are amazing still and its virtually impossible to hit him with a jab or any punch for that matter. He's like James Toney with Roy Jones Jr.'s reflexes + speed.

I can't wait for floyd to get KTFO by hatton, then all the ass licking will stop. He's not funny, anyone who thinks he is, listen to james toney.

WTF are you talking about I don't think anyone said Floyd was funny, and don't hold your breath... Should Hatton face PBF he will be TKO'ed probably within 6.

Personally...I think that the old Floyd & the new Floyd are essentially the same Floyd...no matter who trains him Floyd Jr is always on time with everything that he does.

I'd say that I like Floyd all the way around...the older he get's the better he get's.

i agree, i have also noticed this in his fights....
i think it will make him more vulnerable to attack for sure, but then again his style will be more exciting to watch....Im not sure really, i think when he gets old the last thing he would want to do is fight offensively...especially with young stronger fighters.

I can't agree with you there wacko he opens up way more nowadays, and he throws harder shots and plants his feet more. Some say its because of the weight change I say its because he always wanted to be this way, and without Floyd Sr. around Roger guides him in way of fighting that puts greater emphasize on offensive.

I read an article on this very thing just a few days ago...it was by Jeff Mayweather...he said the very same things that you are now...& I don't know...I just don't see it that way.

I saw Floyd on many occassions in the past fight in the pocket & throw power shots...I just think that with age...he's just settled in a bit more & nows how to land & place his power correctly now.

Maybe it is all Roger...but I think that in the end...it's all Floyd.

I agree that his style is definitely changing, but I also agree that the change is all from Floyd.
Like I said earlier, his confidence is definitely rising and he seems like he's going out there wanting to prove he could punch in his class every time he moves up.

Man these days are crawling by slowly waiting for Floyd - Zab.

As fighter myself I agree you make your own style no matter who's your trainer unless their are hitleresque, but Roger was with Floyd for a long time, and I think that his advice which Floyd respects has taken its impact on Floyd... If you respect somebody and try out what they teach you eventually it will rub off. I think the Corrales fight was a good example in the begining he fought more his old style then he showed his offensive brilliance, and the commentator mentioned to the effect that Floyd was fighting how his uncle Roger taught him now.
