Love him, hate him or whatever side of the fence you are on, you can not deny the fact that the newly crowned WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs 48-4-1 (42) is one entertaining individual with an amusing sense of humor who has overcome the odds to earn the title of… heavyweight champion, the World Boxing Organization’s heavyweight champion to be exact, a belt he won November 4th by defeating then champ Sergei Liakhovich via knockout.

It wasn’t the most the entertaining heavyweight clash in recent history but in the words of Briggs, “I was doing what I had to do.” And what he done was hang in there after suffering an asthma attack in the opening round to go on to drop Liakhovich not once, but twice and out of the ropes down and out for the count to gain the win with one second left in the twelfth and final round. And this is where the controversy began and the accusations and protests have persisted since the fight. We all know the protest by the Liakhovich camp, and have gotten his side on this debacle, now the champ reacts to the allegations and gives his thoughts on the fight, and the post fight drama, and in his own little humorous way gives his thoughts on his future and the heavyweight division, enjoy.

Anyone have some thoughts on Shannon Briggs?

"But you know being ridiculed by everybody against all odds and being asthmatic, being homeless and coming up living in the streets with my mother dying of a heroin overdose and my father died in prison, I want you to put all of this in there, throughout all of that I overcame and made all the haters look stupid, so don’t hate the player hate the game. I know a lot of people were at home saying Shannon Briggs heavyweight champion of the world I just can’t f*cking believe this, but it happened.

Shannon may not be the idiot we all think....I think he knows his time here will be short...IMO he is trying to generate as much interest in himself as he can to up a payday.....He has spent the last two years fighting rollover bums and he knows thats what he is best at....This is a fighter trying to make the best of a good situation that has a short time span

Maybe your right but the way I see Shannon is that if he was so serious about making the best of this situation...don't you think he would at least train appropriately. If you are doing your road work, all of it, then you aren't coming in at 270 unless your 7feet tall. It looks like the man did a cycle of something and hit the weights real hard.
As a result his punch output was the lowest I've seen in a long time.

To me, especially with a guy with asthma, its lazy to come in at 270. Anyone can lift weights, I've done it more than half of my life.....the hard S*** is getting out and running 10 miles a day and doing all that cardio-vascular intensive training.

I'm real sorry about his mom and dad, I wouldn't wish that on anyone but don't go on a tirade about being raised in the mean streets. The current crop of heavyweights has blown a hole in that gotta come from a hard upbringing to be tough enough to get a title bullshit.

Its about who wants it the most....not where you came from or any of that crap.

I'll take Shannon as seriouly as he takes himself.
