How exactly? Cotto shouldnt replace anyone on any pound for pound list. If he is on anyones list now he should have been on it to begin with. He looked good beating Quintana but is beating Quintana worthy of a leap up any list P4P or otherwise? I say no. Cotto proved what he has done so many times. He is too much for any second tier opponant. When he beats Margarito then we can talk P4P.
Floyd made it to the top on some peoples list by beating 2nd , 3rd and 4th tier opponents so why should it be any different for Cotto.

That may be true, it isnt but it could be

The difference being that Miguel has ONLY beaten 2nd 3rd and 4th tier opposition

I like Cotto and have defended him a lot, but I also don't think he is quite top 10 p4p yet. I agree that he will be there soon, but beating Urkal won't make his case, we won't know until he fights Margarito.

He is still so young and needs more experience, but he is definately on track.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

I agree that he's not P4P yet. It took me awhile but now I've become a fan of Cotto's. Always exciting. But he hasn't beaten the level of opponents yet to deserve P4P. I assume he'll be there one of these days.

Don't forget that with that destruction he bacame a two time world champion, in two different weight classes. His level of opposition with the exception of Tszyu has been markedly better than Hatton's with a few decent names in there even if none were elite.

The question to me is, if Cotto isn't dserving of a spot, then how come Ricky Hatton is?

You said it yourself he has Tszyu on his resume. Hatton is a three time world champion in two weight classes, four if we include the WBU (just kidding) As soon as Cotto batters Margarito he earns his spot.

I definitely see your point but, Quintana is top tier and everyone will soon see that if he didn't get ruined by the Cotto fight. Floyd hasn't fought any worthwhile opponents besides Zab in a very long time and he's been steadily climbing the p4p ranks. I don't take anything away from Floyd as far as skills but he's proving that that he's more talker than fighter. That is the reason why I have Winky and Pac ahead of him. They keep proving they can do it against the best.

Cotto is as good as his last fight and this means he's deserving of such great praise
It's kind of irony that most people thought Collazo was a nobody before Hatton and after Hatton 'lost' suddenly Collazo is a master boxer

So great in fact that his fight on the undercard of Briggs Lyakhovich wasn't deemed worthy to be screened by Showtime :P

Cotto did what Hatton failed to do against better opposition and with style.

Plus Cotto is only 5 ft 7 roughly the same size as Hatton, it was first fight at the weight and he won the title.

Billy Graham, said in defense of Hatton, 'Its unheard of for a fighter to move up a division and fight for and win a world title in their first fight at the new weight. Obviously he had never heard of Hopkins, Jones and overlooked Mayweather.........well now Cotto has joined them.

Cotto earns his spot in the to 10 p4p at the expense of Hatton.
CC niiiiiice post. I am not sure if Cotto is top 10 P4P just yet,but he CERTAINLY is close!

Im OK with Pacquiao. I love Winky but when was the last time he beat someone who was his equal physically? Good names dont get me wrong, but he is holding the aces at all times.

Moot point really as we are talking about Cotto but thats my two cents worth

At least you make valid points and make me think. I can't stand talking to guys in here who are biased fans. CC for that

Yeah he looked impressive but the elite won't quit on their stool like Quintana did
Can the elite take a body shot like Quintana? That shot would hurt anybody. Quintana didn't quit. He was simply too hurt to continue.

By the way, Tszyu knocked down Hatton with a body punch in one of the middle rounds, but it wasn't called by that biased referee. See the fight again and you will see what I mean. It was clearly a knockdown on a legit body shot.
