that was the whole concept of the movie thought wasn't it. it was supposed to be the champion of the world giving an average fighter the chance of a life time. rocky was a journey man who became a contender because america was supposed to be the land of opportunity. thats the idea of the film, its an underdog story.
sly stallone got the idea when he say ali fight a bloke called chuck wepner (or somethin like that). he was a huge underdog journe man who went the distance (i think) with ali who at the time was the man.

He lost via split decision(I'd like to know what fight the one judge who scored that fight for rocky was watching, I believe he went on to score Tarver-Jones I.) He knocked out Apollo after trailing 13 rounds to 1, if the announcers were accurate, I believe it was the 9th round that rocky won. and of course he loss to Clubber, I still wonder who won the no camera's no reporters rubber match between apollo and rocky at the end of rocky III.

u dont know how close fight was they only showed u full rounds of first couple of rounds if my memory is correct plus rocky was holding his own id have to watch movie again but from what i remember rocky was holding his own
