Maybe I'm just cynical, but I don't think any boxer fights due to "love of boxing." It's either money or ego. Let's face it: Guys like Holyfield do not "need" a payday, but still do it because they believe they still can be the man they were at 25 years old. Guys like Floyd Mayweather Jr. are just looking for the biggest payday, and I say: Good for them! Boxing is the only sport that the participants risk death every second they compete in it. Their prime is awfully short, and they should get what they can while they can.
(By the way, while appreciating his technical mastery, I'm not a fan of Floyd. If he can pass the chin-check that is Oscar De La Hoya, I'll be mightily impressed).
