At the moment he is eating very little fat/carbs... the theory is that his body will eat away his stored fat for energy during the training.

Then a week of two before the fight they will start eating carbs again... because his body has been starved of Glycogen (from carbohydrates) his body will store as much as it can in his muscles which will give him a high threshold of stored glycogen to use.

It's risky but can work if the people around you know what you are doing. The main problems are that a lack of Glycogen during training will reduce the quality of certain aspects of your work, anaerobic activitys... springs, plyos and heavy bag work depending on how you do it will suffer and if it doesn't work toney will be lethargic and drained on fight night.
