Default Who and where is Harry Simon?

    Who was this guy...

    http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=005625

I was nosing around Boxrec AGAIN and i came across this guy Harry Simon... He hasn't had too many fights and form the looks of things, he may be retired?!

The reason im asking is because:

*He KO'ed Wayne Alexander, who has links to Takaloo, Magee, Santos & Hatton (if you look hard enough )
*Has Beaten Rodney Jones (A guy who has beat Antonio Margarito and is due to fight Cory Spinks in Feb 07)
*In only his 17th fight he beat Ronald "Winky" Wright, who is currnenly around the no.3 spot P4P who at the time had already compiled a record of 38-1

Obviously im not claiming him to be a secret or indeed a fighter on the verge of greatness (mostly due to the fact that he failed to halt Hacine Cherifi ).... But it seems to me that this guy had talent.... SO WHO THE HELL IS HE

Harry Simon (born October 21, 1972 in Walvis Bay, Namibia) was a professional boxer in the super welterweight (154 lb) division. As an amateur he represented his native country at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.

Simon turned pro in 1994 won the WBO Light Middleweight Title by defeating Winky Wright, and defended it against Hacine Cherifi and Armand Krajnc. Nicknamed "The Terminator" he is still undefeated, but was stripped of the belt for failing to defend and has not fought since beating Krajnc in 2002. Simon was involved in a car accident in late 2002, and was seriously injured. Three Belgian tourists - two adults and a baby - died in the collision with Simon's Mercedes-Benz at Langstrand in November 2002. He was earlier involved in another car accident that saw two people killed. Simon was found guilty for the 2002 car crash. In 2005 he was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment.

he also had one of best amateur records ever

I know the story, but it seems that every couple of months people discover the guy and wonder why he disappeared (I did the same thing!).
Did anyone here see him fight? And how would he do against today's top middleweights?

I have his fight against Winky Wright, and he did not win that fight, but he was still pretty good.

I have seen Simon fight twice...he seemed to be okay.

I have the Wright fight on tape...& sorry...but he lost to Wright. The fight was a hometown decision of the worst manner. The fight was scored a draw but afterwards, when Wright had left the mat it was changed to a bullshit majority decision.

Wright wasn't even there, he was back in his dressing room. Simon lost that fight but was in the home court & got a gift.

i couldnt of asked for a better run down mate, thanks a lot! So (apart form Youtube not having any footage of him) have you seen him, or read reviews on his fights? How would he stand up to the likes of Dela Hoya, Vargas & Mosley (2002/2004 154'ers)?

What was Winky like back then? Was he near to the level of skill he has now?

How did Harry fight, i noticed a glaring lack of stoppages, was it due to his style or, like wright, did he sacrifice his power?

Wright was good...no boubt, but he was a bit raw compared to the Wright of today & not as much of a defense master as he is now. The constant with Winky is that jab. He's always been a master of his jab & that's what sticks out.

Again...only seen Simon twice. Not to sure as to how great he actually was...but truly...he did lose that fight.

I did think as much... Ive read a lot of posts on here that claim Winky was robbed a lot earlier in his career. I think its disgusting that a fighter of that sort of calibre should have to take those sort of knocks.
For that fact alone (cause i still find him boring ) i'm glad he is were he is today.

IMO he was already a great tactician though like Wacko said not the same fighter as today... He was more of a mover, and could keep that distance with his jab that was thrown often and accurately. Though he was a mover he still had alot of that same impenetrable guard that he has today which he wouldn't use as much due to the fact that he was more inclined to use what was exceptional foot speed, and technique.
