Taylor is a big middleweight, good boxing skills, decent power (but nothing special) ........ but I just don't think his heart is in it. He does not want to dominate his opponent ot knock them out and just seems to look for the easy way through to a points win.

I don't mean to put the guy down, because he seems to be a decent man, but to get where he has got to without seeming to be passionate about, or even enjoying, the fighting aspects, he must be very talented indeed. Unfortunately, he seems to be a poor man's Michael Nunn so far.

Because he is big, I think he is very tight at the weight and someone like Barkley would not have given him a second's respite.

Imagine what he could be like if he was a nasty mofo.

I like some of these posts, funny, very funny. Tear up the scar tissue on Barkley's eyes? Man that is something a true champion would do huh? Takes a big man to pick at a cut for a stoppage, right? And James Toney, who is an actual fighter not phoney like Taylor, and a much bigger puncher than Taylor, took a bit longer than 4 rounds to stop a slightly past his best Iran, so how the fuk would Taylor stop him in 4 rounds? Give me a break. Barkley KO's him IMO.

I think you are overlooking just how good Taylor is....This could be a great fight!!!!

Nah. He's pretty good, third best in the world. Behind the two men that beat him, B-hop and Winky. He's been given the belt, Barkley had to take it by force against Hearns, then lose it Duran, but hey, Duran is a legend. Taylor would be stopped IMO, I'd gurantee it. His constant holding and mediocre power wouldn't save him, his chin would keep him in there till the middle rounds, but not much longer IMO.

Iran Barkley was not a world class beater, he has been beaten many times in his career...
But his swarming tactics may really unsettle Taylor and it would be a war, Taylor can't afford to go backwards because Iran is just too dangerous.

I know he was beaten many times, losing his last 6 straight fights....at Heavy weight!!! And many of those losses came when he was very much past his prime. He did have about 8 losses when he faced Toney at SMW. Believe me he had enuff to beat Taylor, ya don't have to be a world beater to beat Jermain Taylor, just a good, power punching, pressure fighter like Barkley.

No way Taylor is way too talented for him... Barkley didn't have what it takes to beat a guy like Taylor who will be an ATG.

I tend to agree. Taylor's style of landing but taking punches would work in Iran Barkley's favor. Iran would hit him and knock him out. Taylor is a warrior and with a guy like Iran that hurts people. Iran likes to go to war and his punches are awkward. Remember that second fight with Hearns?? Iran and Tommy beat each other to a pulp.. Hearns had a broken nose and Iran had a 2 broken ribs after the fight. Both guys had guts but it still favored Iran since that was his fight, not Tommys

yeah Taylor is a warrior but sometimes when a great fighter like Hearns or a maybe great like Taylor have too much heart, then they abandon their skills. And Hearns did this many times. Had Hearns had the Roy Jones mentality, he could have bored us for 10 years the way Roy Jones did. Instead Tommy made exciting fights for 20 years.

Shut up. You mean if Hearns had the TALENT that Roy had, he could have dominated world class opponents for years like Roy did. Taylor is a phoney, who was wrongly given the title, and should not be mentioned in the same breat as Tommy Hearns, let alone Roy Jones Jr.

no I mean if Hearns wanted to bore us the way Jones did we could have been bored, but as it happened Tommy Hearns goes down with historical fights which will live in fistic history. Tommy outboxed Virgil Hill and the great Wilfred Benitez... He outpunched Cueves and Duran. fought a classic fight with Hagler. What did Jones do? Beat Ruiz at heavyweight? A guy who was the worst heavyweight champ in the division who was stopped in record time by Tua?? Yeah good accomplishment.. Skills? The guy was fast but he did not try and excite. So he will go down as a rather boring fighter. Hearns wont. Hearns will live more in boxing history.

Yeah Hearns was exciting all right but he was KO'd by SRL, who wasn't half the great boxer Roy was, and was iced by Iran Barkley and Marvin Hagler. Roy Jones was damn exciting I dunno what you are talking bout. Ever see a guy put both hands behind his back then leap in with a left hook and knock down a world class LH? Roy did. Roy dominated a prime Toney, dropping him and showboating the whole time. Oh and the Virgil Hill who Tommy outboxed, yeah, Roy took him out in 4 with a wicked body shot. Come on! Roy was 10 times the fighter Taylor is, and won his titles legit, all four of em.

Saying Ray Leonard was not half the boxer Roy Jones is shows how you favor Roy Jones. Ray Leonard is one of the top 5-10 pound for pound boxers of all time. Roy is not near that and Roy never had a great fight and you cannot tell me he did. That is the problem with Roy Jones Jr. He wanted to win the fights but not excite the crowd, and not having that great fight in his resume will mean that in 10 years people will mention him and then move on. No clips and not much to talk about. Who cares if a guy puts both hands behind his back against lower quality opposition. I would rather have seen Jones give us a great fight and taking on better quality than that Frazier guy or Harding. That is why a guy like Oscar Delahoya will go down better than Roy. He fought the best guys he could and he has them on his resume. So does Hearns. Roy fought alot of contenders, but never wanted the big challenge. Roy won his titles legit? Ruiz was a case of handpicking a heavyweight who was slow and predictable. Roy was not usually hit with his hit and run tactic, so if a heavyweight was going to hit Roy and stop him, it would not be Ruiz.. Ruiz gave Toney and Jones the chance to be heavyweight champions. Saying Ruiz is a champion to me is a stretch when you got guys like Holmes who had held that title. Roy was a good fighter who near wanted to fight the cream of the crop and found ways out of fighting them by overpricing himself and making excuses, but then he would fight lower tier guys and put both hands behind his back. I was never impressed. Hearns knocking out Duran was impressive. Hagler stopping Hearns was impressive. Jones going the distance with Gonzales was not.
