Winky For sure.....Floyds defense is one that relies on speed...eventually you lose the speed a bit and guys as fast or faster will catch you...AND SPARE ME THE NO ONE IS AS FAST AS FLOYD BS....I KNOW SOMEONE WILL FEEL COMPELLED TO SAY IT....With Winy you can't land clean in a phone booth....BTW CC for the video clip

Winky is slightly better on the defensive end, ICB you did another good job with this thread. Not to get too far off the subject but I do believe Floyds offensive skills are better.
thanks bro have cc on me :POriginally Posted by brazilianbomber
Um watch Mayweather on the insde as well, and who is as fast as PBF? especially in his lower weights? I won't spare you shit because its true.Originally Posted by DaxxKahn
Who has the better defense? It depends what you are looking at in your defense.
counter punching oppertunities: Both of them create alot of counter punching oppertunities, but Mayweather's defense allows him to come back with way harder punches while Winky has to keep his punches short because he may have to go on the defensive right after throwing a punch. ADV:Mayweather Jr.
Getting Hit: Both of them almost never get hit, and its usual to see an opponent hit them more than 30%. However Mayweather has had consistantly lower % of being hit than Winky, but Mayweather gets hit on the chin while Winky is only ever hit on the side of the head or on the gloves. ADV neither
Defending the body: Winky wins this because Mayweather sometimes allows his opponent to hit him to the body in order to get a clean shot to the opponents head while Winky almost blocks everything with his elbows. ADV:Winky
Misconceptions: That Mayweather like RJJ has a defensive style that will erode as he grows older... WRONG. His defensive style only relies on his speed to a degree. He has seen so much in the ring he knows what comming before it happens which takes out alot of the reflexes needed to avoid being hit. Like Toney he slips and is a great inside fighter which was RJJ's biggest problem because he didn't fight well on the inside, and was totally reliant on power and reflexes to fight off the ropes. Floyd is a great defensive fighter because he is so good with that shoulder. Winky is a great defensive fighter who seems to take a beating every fight, but though his defensively style causes him to get semi hit more so than the Floyd Mayweather's of the world he still not only gets the padding of his glove, but he moves his cleverly in synchronization with the punches comming in so that they do the least possible damage. He has one of the best techniques in take a punch and diminishing its power... I love watching it.
Verdict: In my mind they both have defenses up there with the likes of Pernell Whitaker. The only difference between these two that favor me toward Mayweather is that he gets hit less, and he makes transition between defense and offense more fully, and that his defensively style allows him follow through with punches, and even when Winky used to move he was still hit more than Mayweather who uses such good footwork and speed to evade opponents.

Did you see his last fight? When he got hit 12% of the time against a guy who could hit Judah who is also a very good defensive fighter? Or that Gatti hit him 17% of the time. As for speed watch him against Genaro Hernandez or Corrales back before he put on all this weight.
winky for me.
reason, winky covers his chin at all times.
mayweather is so good but he weaves and makes opponents miss, but 1 day he may weave into a punch.
probably wont, but possible
I'm the real pretty boy
Right now it has to be Mayweather. I don't understand the logic of dismissing Mayweather's speed. Speed is part of his defense and right now he's fast. He might slow in 3 years time and then not have as good a defense but right now he's clearly got the better defense.
Winky is getting increasingly flat footed these days. In his last 3 fights he probably got hit more than any other fights in his career.
Floyd's defense is better.
To me I love the Philly Shell of Mayweather...I think he is poetry in motion with his defense...The shoulder Rolls and faints and Footwork are outstanding.. I love this topic and to me defense is the most important.. In any sport Boxing, MMA, Football, Baseball.. I love the Defensive side of it and see the value in it more so than the offensive side.. You cant win having a shitty offense and a Shitty defense, However you can have a mediocre offense and a supberb defense and dominate and stay at the top... When I spar I am defense 1st and I feel more comfortable countering same as my grappling I rather have someone commit to a takedown or a move and counter from there.. it keeps me in a relaxed frame of mind and better prepared to handle whatever comes my way including adversity..
I love em Both and Winky and Floyd's defense is extremely effective and is tailor made for there attributes and Style.. Winky has seemingly freakish long arms so when he has the guard up his whole front from head to belt line are covered so he deflects the majority of shots coming down the pipe..
I prefer Floyds defense at this point in time cause its unorthodox and more versatile which makes countering easier and and has a better xcitement factor since mayweather looks like a ghost in there he probably has the best Philly shell I have ever seen couple that with his footwork and its like trying to steal the wheels off a car thats going 25mph virtually Impossible just like hitting Floyd with a set bona fide power shot ..
I love this topic to you little Bro
thanks bro cc back i love to see good debate with knowledgeable fans like yourselfs always interesting to see other peoples opinionsOriginally Posted by JT Rock
I see PBF's defense staying for a long time just like James Toney's, and Pernell Whitakers because of that shoulder, and how much ring experience they all had. Granted since becomming 38 and obesse Toney isn't as good defensively as he was or should be if he lost 20 pounds, but still alot of the punches that hit him aren't hitting cleanly even if they appear that way because he is rolling with them. I would say that PBF doesn't get hit cleanly to the head without him moving with the punch or partially rolling underneath it more than 4% of the time.
Exactly Bilbs great point... Just like your defense is effective of biting ankles and Large ogres in the ballz HAHA!! so how does a Hobbit celebrate Christmas anyway LOL!!!Originally Posted by bilbo
