I thought Margarito looked ok, sure he was wide open to be hit and second to the punch in round 2 -4 (Tony won the first round) but he had still turned it around by round 6 or so.

Personally, even though Clottey started well, he ran out of gas. He may have hurt his hand but it was his stamina or lack of that caused him to spend extended periods on the ropes being beaten up.

I think, much like Vitali against Lewis, that Clottey's chances have been exaggerated because people like to think what might have been.

Fact is Margarito was wearing Clottey down from about round 5 onwards.

Plenty of fighters hurt their hands during a fight, I don't recall it having the effect of making a fighter look exhausted for the remainder of the fight.

Calzaghe broke his hand against Ashira in round 4 and still won all the remaining rounds with his other hand.


Not saying that the hand didn't hamper Clottey but it also gave him an excuse.

He lost the fight because he gassed out, not because he hurt his hand.
