1. Floyd is not a "stick and mover." Floyd stands in front of his opponents and makes them miss. Does a little shoulder dip too.Originally Posted by diamonddavestafford
2. Cotto is a patient stalker and a good counter puncher. If Floyd stands in front of Cotto long enough to stick a jab, rest assured that one of Cotto's signature body shots will land.
3. Cotto has plenty of experience. Plenty. He has an extensive amateur record. He fought in the olympics. He has close to 30 fights. He is the current WBA welterweight champion. Lots of experience to step up to the plate against Floyd.
4. If you look at Floyd's previous fights (hopefully you all record the fights like I do), you will see that Floyd can get hit in the body (Floyd cannot get hit in the head and if he does, it's never flush). Cotto is committed to the body and will land many punches to the arms, chest, ribs, liver, etc. This will wear down Floyd, who doesn't have a strong physique (Very brittle looking to tell you the truth). Also, Floyd may keep his hands down a bit due to Cotto's propensity to go to the body, perhaps leaving his face open more than usual.
5. A fight between Floyd and Cotto would not be similar to Floyd-Baldomir because Baldomir is slow as hell and does not know how to cut off the ring (he destroyed Gatti because Gatti stands in front of his opponents). There's a reason why Baldomir had 9 lossess and few KO's (he is a hardworker and resilient, but lacking in true skill). Cotto is much faster and technically sound than Baldy. Cotto will be faster than any opponent Floyd has faced in recent memory with the exception of Judah.
6. However, Floyd would have to be the favorite in a fight with Cotto because no one has been able to prove they can defeat Floyd. But Floyd's level of competition has been very, very safe recently (Brusseles, N'dou, Mitchell, Gatti, Baldomir). It would be great to see him step in the ring with any of the following after Oscar: Cintron, Cotto, Collazo, Margarito, Williams. Those guys are much better than the Baldomirs and the Gattis.
