1. Floyd Mayweather- obvious choice. Flawless record. Classic speed/defense fighter with a style that lends itself to longevity. Generally this mold of fighter doesn't lose until age sets in (see: Whitaker, Pernell), so I expect Mayweather to be #1 for a few years to come.

2. Winky Wright- #2 entering 2006, and did nothing to relinquish his spot. Although I will say, I look at his draw against Taylor in a slightly less favorable light after Taylor's poor showing against Ouma.

3. Manny Pacquiao- Fighter of the Year for 2006, and definitely the most electric fighter out there. However, he will always be more vulnerable than fighters like Mayweather and Wright because he is not as technically proficient, and punchers are always vulnerable to skilled boxers.

4. Bernard Hopkins- Dropped from #2 down to #5 or #6 after the Taylor losses, but restablished himself with the victory over Tarver. Should retire in my opinion and go out on the high of the historic victory at 175.

5. Juan Manuel Marquez- considered by some to be an undefeated fighter and will give Pacquiao a very tough fight if their rematch comes off in '07. If I'm Pacquiao, I would much rather face......

6. Marco Antonio Barrera- I'm giving him this spot mostly for career accomplshments. I was very unimpressed by his performaces against Juarez. Barrera is an old, well past his prime fighter at this point IMO, and I think he will lose by mid-round stoppage if he faces Pacquiao in '07.

7. Joe Calzaghe- longest reigning champ should finally get a defining fight in '07

8. Jermain Taylor- most disappointing fighter of '06 IMO. This past year was set up for Taylor to reach superstardom, and instead he enters '07 with more questions than answers. Beats 160 pounders because of his above average size and athleticism, but shows no concept of ring generalship whatsoever, and will be exposed by Calzaghe at 168.

9. Rafael Marquez- I've seen very little of Marquez for whatever reason. Look forward to catching him in '07.

10. Miguel Cotto- highest climber of '06. Unfortunately, he's stuck in a division with a fighter (Mayweather) who I don't believe Cotto will ever be able to beat. So he'll have to settle for spending the next few years as the #2 welterweight.
