I really don't know how we let it get that bad. I dunno why the majority of america was convinced to re-elect bush thinking he'd finish the war with alittle more time in office. My favorite line of this reasoning "in a second term he'll have the confidence to pass important bills" . He started his presidency by throwing the surplus right out the window. We'd be in substantial debt even if the war and stuff didn't happen. Thankfully he has to leave office in '08 regardless.
