Kinda odd...but it equates to money & also straightening out the Pacquiao rematch situation later down the road...if Arum allows that to happen.
On the surface it may seem odd, but you have to take their ages into account. Both these guys are in their 30s, it's not like they have a ton of fights left in them. If you assume Pacquiao is out of the mix due to legal trouble, then it's smart to put Barrera in against Marquez. If you keep him away from Marquez, Barrera could conceivably lose in an upset to a young up-and-comer, a Juarez type fighter, and then Barrera's days are likely over, and he never gets the big fight at all.
Agreed on Barrera...not on Marquez...& I like Barrera...so I aint playin favorites.

Here's the thing on Marquez...he hasn't been in nearly the battles that most fighters have. His counter punching defensive natured style has kept him out of some serious beatings.

Now I aint trying to disagree with you or come off as naive...but I truly believe that that will keep him young in his career.

Make sense? I know it sounds stupid...but Marquez's style has kept him out of some serious scrapes...then again...lately...he's been standing & trading a lot more.
