    Default Steroids in boxing.

So many sports are being ruined by steroid users. Boxing has yet to be. I wonder what % of guys in the top 10 of each weight class are on them.

It's hard to say. The athletic commisions of each state, and/or the sanctioning bodies are supposed to do pre-fight and post-fight drug screens. This doesn't always happen, and alot of times you don't even hear of such a thing until there is controversy, or unless Don King is involved.

Alot of bigger names have been busted{Toney,Vargas, etc.}, so that gives the impression that tests are being conducted. But, money can make people forget about such tests. Sometimes they do both tests-Tyson vs Golotta, Mike was clean before the fight, after the fight he tested positive for marijuana. Sometimes they only do the after test, Toney wasn't tested before, but afterwards tested positve for steriods.

Wasn't it ruled a no contest because he had a joint afterwards?...

I believe so, but I do know he was suspended{License}, for at least 90 days. I wondered why Mike looked more calm than usual. His "people" said he had been taking his medicine. Yea, obviously he was.

Why are they testing for weed in the first place? That is retarded--spend those resources testing for performance enhancers--it's totally irrelevant what other drugs anyone has in his system (except to the extent it might actually *hurt* his chances of performing).

Like I always say unless these tests are random, (testing throughout the year) Its possible to pass some steriod tests in a matter of 11 days. I know this for a fact and i'll leave it at that. I would even go as far as saying 75 % of them use some illegal supplements at some point or another during there boxing careers.

unless they were tryna gain weight.
every other effect would be a negative in my opininion

well there are different types of steroids, not all of them are for muscle mass gain. some are taken for increasing strength and some for reducing body fat %.

I am more than positive Roy Jones took steroids preceeding his fights, I mean he just looked unbelievably ripped and had a body fat of something like 4%.

I can believe Toney was actually taking steroids. Everyone says he cant of been cos he was out of shape. Ever think Lazy guy + steroids for weight gain = overweight. Combine that with Burger King and you get James Toney vs John Ruiz

The fact that the drug is illegal and this is a proffesional sport that is watched by millions of people, and alot of these guys and especially Mike Tyson is looked upon as a guy people look upto and see as his idol.

They do drug testing that will bring up whatever drug you have in your system, you cant go taking illegal drugs no matter what your opinion is on Cannabis is, and expect to get away with it if your in a proffesional sport.

They way he put on 30 odd pounds for the ruiz fight makes me wonder. Thats almost near impossible for a guy in hhis 30's to do.....especialy without putting on any body fat. But i guess i'll never know so its wrong to judge.

You have to remember that boxers walk around alot heavier than when they fight, they loose weight for the fight and then dry up for the weigh in.

If you said to me things like ephidrine, or other illegal stuff then I'd say the number was a bit higher than 10%, but I think lower weights there really would be no benefit in taking steroids, you don't need muscly arms to hit hard, strong but not toned, power comes from the health of the muscle too and steroids aren't exaclty great for muscles, it makes them swell and makes the osmotic balance or some shit like that get messed up.
