It is a matter of judgement to consider Ali as the best or not, however, to call him so boringOriginally Posted by Lyle

Back to the topic, Ali would win at his best due to his superior boxing skills and harder chin IMO.
Ali would torture Jones.
If your talking p4p Roy Jones Jr. and at light heavyweight just because Ali wouldn't make it down to 175, but at heavyweight Ali wins IMO.
This makes no sense so far.. Because you are saying on the one hand PRIME Ali vs prime Jones, and then suddenly it's if Ali went to light heavy?? The only way Roy could win is if Ali were to somehow drain himself to a point where he wouldn't be prime at all.
Hard to pick. Watching Roy jones against Tarver and Johnson I pick Ali. But watching the Alonzo Johnson, Zora Folley, Jimmy Young fights, I pick Roy Jones. If neither had ever lookedbad it would be impossible to beat. All fighters look unbeatable for one night. And All fighters look very beatable for one or two nights. They each have a best performance and a worst performance, so it's impossible to pick unless they fought and exposed each other's weaknesses.
Ali had a chin of steal. And unbelievable belief in himself (He ducked no one).
Not only that, he could box on the outside as well as the inside.
On the outside he dominated Frazier, but in between he had to survive Smokin' Joe's inside game and hang in there with Joe. Ali didn't look great in every fight, yes. But in every HUGE fight that mattered, he fought like a legend.
And he beat Superman.![]()
haha silly question ....Ali easily ...ask RJJ hes been asked this question hes said hed rather see him self matched against sugar ray robinson ...Ali was just as fast but hit harder was taller and danced more
anyway i dont think there is a chance in hell teh way Tarver could tangle w/ him using his reach only being 6'2 Ali was 6'3 212 ....Ali by KO b4 round 7

you must have forgot
Unbelievably bad thread - do people seriously think that a natural super middleweight who spent most of his career fighting tomato cans is going to compete with one of the best natural heavyweights who ever lived?
Ali was a genuinely brave man, he stood up to bullies and would not be intimidated. he outboxed boxers and would be faster than Jones. He stopped and knocked out punchers and would hit harder than Jones. He was tactically magnificent and would not sleepwalk away from the judges decision.
He did not cut, he only swelled up against a pressure fighter like Frazier (so would I!), he would outpsyche Jones, outmanoevre Jones, outbox and outhit Jones.
There is no way in the world Jones could have won this matchup. Has anyone asked him, I wonder?
If God wanted us to be vegetarians, why are animals made of meat ?
ur right we forgot tht he was a 5'11 midleweight who was big and fast and teh lt heavy ...Originally Posted by artest2000
maybe youve never boxed much but a 84 inch reach and fast feet and a great jab (ali) can nutralize ANYTHING under 200lbs and 6'0 ....watch teh Ruiz fight ...the way roy had no power really and had to move in and out ...ali would move in and out just as quick only hed be catching him ....
no offense this really is a silly thread i think RJJ would laugh at the thought of him beating Ali ...cuz he has been asked b4 and his response was he sees himself more equal to sugar ray ....
Agreed - this thread is very, very silly. The only similarity between RJJ and Ali is that they were both blessed with the speed and athletic gifts to fight in a technically unsound manner and still prevail. I just can't take comparing them as fighters, or human-beings for that matter, seriously. Ali wins every day and twice on Sunday.
um Jones pretty much didn't look bad at his prime... except maybe Montell 1.Originally Posted by P.G.H Angel Eyes
that was the disqualification fight wasnt it, i thought he looked good. and awesome in the rematch
i have said it many times before, roy jones was no quicker than evander holyfield if they fought at cruizer weight and if he was it was marginal and holyfield hit harder took a better punch so how in the world could he beat ali![]()
